Why does almost everyone seem to draw the 🚫 symbol backwards? Even the Ghostbusters logo is guilty of this crime:

I never noticed there was a “right way”. I see now that there is an ISO standard that is used for (eg) traffic control signs, but that alone doesn’t make the other way backwards in situations where someone has hand-drawn a sign.

I do it that way because it’s how I draw zeros (Ø). Oopsies

Id guess right handed people draw it “backwards” like that because they are more likely to draw a circle counterclockwise from the top, leaving them in position for a slash in that direction.

See? This is what I’m talking about. People like you are even misremembering the direction of the slash:

American "No Parking" sign, showing a backslash in the "no" symbol
European "No Parking" sign, also showing a backslash in the "no" symbol, thus proving me right

Why do so many people mis-remember this? What causes this phenomenon?

That’s… not the same symbol. He’s right it does go the other way.

I think it’s more natural to go NE-SW though because that’s it’s easier to draw like that.

Since we’re both familiar with german signs, you would agree that Halteverbot is a symbol in and of itself and there’s nothing crossed out. As you scroll down the page you linked to, you’ll see a Halteverbot crossed out, and it’s like this /

My point is not to be right, but just to show the Americans, that not everything “is correct like this”, since we are in an international space with lots of different rules. So our thread here goes into the opposite direction of what I wanted to achieve. Still appreciate the conversation.

If my school told me no more furry drawings, I’d have probably drawn so much more that I got good at it and would be pretty well off right now after doing a lot of comissioned work for a rich dude who’s really into giant versions of Starfox and Falco.

This is more or less how I found myself paying rent for art. Took limited art classes, just doodled everywhere and was told to stop. Posted stuff online in the early 2000s and caught a few stray commissions.

I felt this and the meme hard.

          Memory unlocked.

I learned that furries were a thing in 2000. Was acquaintances with a guy that hung out at Wiffle Horse late at night.

Friend of a friend social group stuff. He was always in a booth sketching.

We were all on so much drugs.

My mind was blown that he was selling pictures of cartoon rabbits in football gear and that he was doing it over the internet. His stuff was totally queer. I remember him explaining yiff and how hard we all laughed that he was actually making fat stacks on it.

Thanks for reminding me of that!

Ngl 1 is pretty furry. I remember the autistic person at my high school would sometimes just wear a tail and it felt so weird. The meowing and purring did not help.

What a hilariously moot argument XD

Why are they exactly being “asked to stop” as you say?

I do not see the difference between drawing animal corn and kindercorn. Dont care what anyone says, when I see furry art that user is immediately blocked

cool. you block me and imma block you. May we never meet again.

edit: it occurs to me that i might want to be clear that I’m on team furry about this, as otherwise my comment could be interpreted in a problematic manner.

Do you think wanting to fuck an animal is problematic?

What are you, the thought police? Judge people by their actions.

(also, I blocked the other guy and have since forgotten what they even said, so I don’t actually know how your question is relevant)

I just think being a furry and wanting to fuck animals are the same. At best it’s a serious indicator that you have an unhealthy relationship to cartoons.

I just happen to think that art which says “I desperately want to fuck animals and have probably already been fucking my pets” is considerably more humiliating. Free speech.

Maybe I’m being too subtle? Most people see your comment and what they read is, “I was SA’d as a child.”

Oh I’m sorry, is it only okay to be shocking and offensive when you do it?

You think i take offense of your frankly laughable assessment? I think the ones that draw kids images as porn have a greater percentage of “uncle wanted me to touch it”-people.
