  • I didn’t see the original comment nor do I need to, but ethnic nationalism, the ‘blood and soil’ kind of nationalism, seeks to forge nationality into the same framework as race. Approaching nation states from this perspective is effectively racist, inherently so.

This is compared to civic nationalism where commitment to national values matters. So one could argue that without clarification it is a stretch, but at the same time… it’s usually pretty clear which version is meant.

Keep in mind business vendors ring up non-food and alcoholic beverages under food stamps all the time. There’s always a gas station or food mart ringing up beer as gatorade and such anyway.

Our lawmakers just tend to refuse to regulate or punish business overall and displace everything onto consumers as means testing for resources.

My last phone purchase went something like this:

“What phones do you have with a headphone jack?”

“Uh, I don’t think any. Maybe one? I’d have to look.”

    “I’ll take that one.”

    “But we–”

“Only spec that matters is a headphone jack.”

    “There’s bluetoo–”

    “Headphone jack.”

  • In my youth I worked on renovating residences. There were some houses in old town (west coast usa) built in the 1890s I worked on. While trenching for a sprinkler system in the back yard we located a buried roof structure.

Turns out the house used to be an illegal speakeasy during prohibition. A whole room had been excavated and built underground and accessed through a passageway hidden by a workbench in the garage.

    So there’s precedent at least.
