I aim to be more human. I aim to be less apathetic as a human. Apathy grows, like a tree, and I aim to prune my own.

  • I used to do that, but I stopped because I’m trying to be less of a people-pleasing doormat in general. Plus people don’t like empty apologies from company reps anyway… it often led to more hostility. Apologizing also tends to give to the impression that they are right to be pissy whiny assholes, which isn’t something that should be encouraged at all.

Instead, I started saying “I very much understand your frustration; let’s see what we can do to get this resolved for you.” This makes you and the customer (psychologically) a team against the problem, and they are less likely to go off on you.

I definitely stole that tactic from car salespeople. And it works super well.

  • My cat somehow managed to run a mouse up to the ceiling just yesterday.

I have a wall tapestry that goes to the ceiling above a dresser, which is about 3.5-4 foot tall? The tapestry only goes to the top of the dresser, and the dresser is like 2 inches off the wall (old baseboard resistive heater).

I woke up to the cat pawing at the tapestry, can’t have that. Turn on the light and see a mouse at the very top. Just chilling up there.

Caught it and threw it over the fence into my dick neighbor’s plants, where they all go. (I have a really old house, this happens)

  • The only stickers I buy are for my kegerator and my 2-gallon ukeg growler from the breweries I visit in my travels… so those go on pretty much right away, unless I forget them.

Sure, if they aren’t just round I have to think about where to put them, to fill as many gaps as possible, but that’s about it.

What sort of places is everyone else throwing stickers?

  • I did this drunk the other day… apparently.

I mean I live alone and my cats aren’t helpful so I imagine it was me, but I have basically no memory of doing anything. I recently cut my drinking way way way down (from near-daily binge drinking to 2-4x/mth binge drinking and nothing other days), so maybe this was my drunk self trying to plea usefulness so I don’t abandon it entirely.

I woke up to a reasonably clean kitchen, living room, and nightstand, plus a hangover. These are not small tasks (as evidenced by the fact I didn’t do them sober), so really I just need to sort out the hangover thing and bam, adhd solution. Or something.

  • The ghostery addon does that whole decline process automatically, and also randomizes data that is mandatory to use the site, to help hide who you actually are. I never see these popups anymore, and I have cookies set to clear on browser close, which I do at least once a day to clean up whatever’s left over.

That just means you need to have something more to offer them than money. Women want a partner, not a provider. They want someone they can talk to, who will treat them as an equal and defer to their expertise when situations call for it, but challenge them to learn and grow when it’s called for. Partnership is mutually beneficial. And they want this regardless of the culture/country they come from.

They want to be treated like equal people. If you can do that you’ll be just fine, I promise the bar is super low globally. You’ll find the right person for you if you treat them like people; that’s all they are and they like being treated that way.

Having been the “checks all the boxes they say they want” lady, this actually kinda checks out.

Because in practice, it’s not what a lot of folks expect. Heaven forbid you make someone feel dumb by talking to them as an equal. So you get rejected (after putting in effort) for being what they asked for.

  • This would absolutely flag me for something. I tend to have flat delivery, low pitch, avoid eye contact, etc. and when combined with other metrics, could easily flag me as not being a happy enough camper.

I mean don’t get me wrong, I’m never going to be happy to be working, but if I showed up that day, I’m also in a good enough headspace to do my job… and if you want to fire me for that… for having stuff going on and not faking vocal patterns…

This is why I don’t want to work anymore. It’s gotten so invasive and fraught if you happen to be anything but a happy bubbly neurotypical fake. And that’s wildly stressful. I’m not a machine, and refuse to be treated like one. If that means I have to die in poverty, well, dump me in the woods, I guess.

This shit should never be legal.

  • The tragedy of the commons is all capitalist nonsense from the 60s anyway. People are quite good at balancing resources within their communities, and sharing spaces and resources makes everyone’s experiences better. It’s only with the “profit at others expense” capitalist mindset that the cooperative model falls apart.

    https://aeon.co/essays/the-tragedy-of-the-commons-is-a-false-and-dangerous-myth

The few will always ruin it for the many where capitalism is involved. It’s inevitable.

But it’s not the few you think it is. It’s not normal people just trying to get by, it’s the people who set it up this way in the first place. They know not everyone will stop. It’s squarely on them.
