Touching grass is nice, but it’s not enough any more. I need a really good hug. Not one of those casual “okay, see you next time” kind of hugs. A hug like the hug the drummer of a band gave me after a show in 2018, which was the best hug I ever got.
I was talking with someone else when he walked by. I smiled and said “Hi,” and he immediately had this big, warm smile on his face, gave me a big bear hug, and said, “Thanks for being here.” It’s one of my core memories.
Sorry, I got lost in a YouTube rabbit hole and spent an hour listening to music and crying a little, but it was Silent Planet in a tiny venue with, like, thirty people there and it was really cool. This is what the vibes were like, except there was no barrier and the vocalist walked around in the room sometimes. (The linked song is about the Native American genocide in the US. All of their songs are like that, and it’s kinda difficult to link to my favourites because a lot of them mention mental illness, suicide, and other potentially triggering stuff)
2 of my friends and I randomly decided to do a long group hug one night. I could just feel the happy chemicals coursing through me. We decided we were hugging from then on rather than fist-bumping. And we’ve stuck to it.

Don’t leave us hanging, what band? (Only if you’re comfortable sharing ofc)

Oh wow I’ll have to check them out, they look cool! I think it’s good to listen to bands that really make you think
Yes, that’s a big part of why I like them. The booklets of their first three albums even have footnotes with references!
Oh nice!
I miss my ex’s hugs. She was the perfect height and temperature. Nothing’s come close since
i’m sure you’ll find someone

Aww, a long group hug sounds like a great time <3
I’ve been told I give good hugs. If I ever see you offline, I’ve got one for you. (Admittedly unlikely - I rarely leave the house except to work)
In the meantime, internet hugs. I hope you get a real one soon.
I will spend the rest of my life waiting for this hug. But an internet hug is a nice bandaid for the time being. Thank you <3

How about we dismantle capitalism and seize the means of hugging? :3
