It is a bit weird how the Republicans can prevent Scotus noms and stuff and the Dems just sit back. I think the Republicans know their base will always go for them and the dirtier the better. I think the Dems are too fragmented both in terms of how to please their voters and in terms of how to get stuff done.

All of their base and funding comes from the bourgeoisie, they aren’t connected with the masses, and even if they tried they would risk severing their real base. Assuming this is in good faith, I would say that the Republicans opposition is pretty right the last few terms. The democrats refuse to learn anything from them though. I think the issue right now is that there isn’t (yet) a unifying leader that can mobilize a big enough population of people to make it impossible for the media to ignore. while I think smaller protests have their place they are useless if they don’t move to something bigger. And something bigger - that being millions of people filling the streets of multiple cities - won’t happen without a big charismatic leader like Martin Luther King, jr.
Yet the middle of the road, center right democrats that hold power see this as a challenge to their control. They only have to look to how the GOP was hollowed out by a big charismatic leader in trump. The more “moderate” republicans lost control to the more extreme right - the moderate democrats don’t want that and will do what they can to hold down that yet unknown person from gaining a voice for the left.
They could organize protests, they could help workers unionize, they could put their necks out and disrupt things, they could do anything besides stand by and say “oh no, this is so bad.” They have a gigantic megaphone and the ears of almost half the country, their power isn’t limited to the votes they have or don’t have. I want them to be making plans that are bold, plans where they feel a need to account for “how do we make sure this doesn’t turn into an outright riot though,” the things you’d do if you actually believed the rhetoric about Trump being a threat to democracy.
