Actual fun fact though you can fit every planet in the solar system between the earth and the moon at the same time. Unlike this photo it’s actually really far off.

To get a sense… take any ball as a scale model of Earth and roll it 10 times in one direction. That would be the scale distance to the moon.

Man, that would have to be something like 31.415926535897932384626433832795028841971693993751058209749445923078164062862089986280348253421170679 times the earth’s diameter…

Yes, 10 circumferences. Earth is about 24,000 miles in circumference. Moon is more than 240,000 miles distant.

            Super helpful! Thanks! :D

Figures like that are still mind boggling. Like…“We put dudes up there!!!”

I’ll never stop being awed and impressed by the vastness of space and just about anything humanity has done with it.

Especially because from the ground just looking up there, you can almost convince yourself it’s not that far, and if you just believed hard enough, you could simply reach out and touch it.

If we had a reason and the ability to stack all elephants on top of each other, we wouldn’t ask about their opinion on the process.

assuming the stack didn’t fall over due to crushed elephants dying or asphyxiated elephants … how big of a sweet spot on the elephant space ladder do you think there is where they’re not getting squished and not asphyxiating?
