recovery records are an essential feature for… uh… certain ‘distribution methods’ about which we are forbidden to speak of.
we still play that game. at least once every week or two, i’m calling a ‘lost’ phone from another or using the handset locator on a cordless system.
snooze… snooze… snooze… snooze… snooze…
alarm clock gives in. shuts it down until tomorrow.
but my flip phone, i have to open and push the correct button to shut off an alarm. that’s enough to wake me up enough to piss me off. so i guess it ‘works’.
dammit. so that’s why it didn’t work. i’ve had waaaaaay more than “one”.
enterprise device management and reporting unknown quantities of data back to hp are two different things.
most** hp printers don’t ship with the hard-core third-party ink/toner block. that’s in the firmware updates.
never update the firmware of an hp printer if you use, or think you might want to use some day, third-party consumables or refills.
if you ‘subscribe’ to ink, you’re fucked, as that service requires automatic firmware updates be enabled.
**some do now, those should be labeled as such on the box–‘must use hp ink for life of printer’ or some bullshit.
in 1990, $8-10 a carton; nowadays it’s barely worth the short drive there–they price them ‘just under’ regular retail price here.
thank you, ordis.
years ago i read that the reason for the lopsidedness of the cursor was because of the old crt monitors. it just looked better having two edges being ‘straight’; one exactly vertical up and down, one exactly horizontal, left to right; as those edges would have no ‘jaggies’
rotating the pointer straight-up makes it look even more off-kilter.

because you are the can opener operator… and they know this, because they tried to do it themselves. and failed. that’s why all that stuff got knocked off the kitchen counters.
because those workers didn’t buy into that corporate anti-union nonsense.
this isn’t anything new. fake downloads, malware, and scam support sites and links and phone numbers have been a thing in results since they started putting paid placements and ads in serp… and even before then, back when simple keyword spam could game the algorithms.
is there anyone on the planet that didn’t see this coming the moment the buyout was first announced?
it will probably ‘end’ pretty well for them. you’d be surprised at how many home users just ‘go with it’ because they don’t know any better… and a lot of businesses only buy ‘genuine’ consumables anyway.
i’ve got various dells here with them (the front ports) vertically oriented… some go one way, some go the other.
can’t happen here… our current printer (an older, higher-end canon) has a whopping 50 page capacity input tray; and if you dare put 50 sheets in it, it’ll choke on the first page it tries to pull through–so more like 35-40, max.
some of their cars and trucks may still be wrapped-around a tree or in a ditch, or were impounded. and you can get ticketed for driving them without a license, but you can’t get a ticket for cruising down the road on a lawn tractor without one (afaik, you could still get a dui though).
erecting a firewall.
someone spycheck already, dammit!
