The mods of a certain pair of tankie instances a few months ago were talking about taking over all other instances of Lemmy while the userbases became increasingly hostile towards users who disagreed with the idea that Stalin/Lenin did nothing wrong and that China is a perfect country who can do no wrong and has never done anything bad.
People have the right to not be harassed and take action to prevent said harassment.
Yup. I imagine that’s the kind of reason why they started that myth in the first place. So they could avoid taking the blame by claiming they were more liberal when they were younger.

Given a standardized list of stuff like room dimensions and the materials required for their construction, AI could probably generate an endless number of variations of both houses and additions for them with an exact list of required construction materials and equipment. Entire series of standardized houses with all the materials prepped ahead of time, ready to just be delivered to a plot of land and constructed on site by a local construction companies, with only minor adjustments required to account for the specific peculiarities of the area. I totally understand this, because we often attribute features that are either androgynous or culturally considered feminine (but especially androgynous features) with prepubescence. So you’ve got the rounded faces and lack of secondary sex characteristics that we would associate with older people, plus fashion that could easily be considered “younger,” and despite probably being intended to be 20 or so, they look much younger.
As somebody who’s got that scruffy white Jesus look going on but doesn’t have a square jawline and often wears hoodies, I’ve more than once been mistaken for a high school/college student - even by high school students no less - despite being in my 30s. Being hit on by college kids almost 10 years younger than you is an awkward experience I would not wish on anyone. As is having your mom be mistaken for your grandmother.
Studies have apparently shown that the trend of people becoming more conservative as they grow older isn’t even true. The data says that the Boomers were just as conservative when they started voting as they are today. If anything, people consistently become more conservative as they get wealthier.

Exactly. Shocking as it may be to some people, we can hate 2 flavors of fascism at the same time. And it’s not like lemmy as a whole has had to defederate from 2 Nazi instances in the past couple of months due to their awful behavior, which cannot be said for a certain 2 tankie instances.

It took me until today to realize that Tumblr’s threading is the opposite of Reddit’s.
I guess that’s what happens, though, when you haven’t really updated your format in 20 years and have always had the reputation of being the social media site for people who hate social media.
Props to the original CEO, though, for making a site that did exactly what he wanted: not be Facebook in any way, and allow him to post photos that people who followed him could see and allow him to follow people so he could see photos that they posted. Mission accomplished on that end.
The Republicans attempted a coup in the US and have spent the years since revoking minority rights all over the country. It took 2 tries to get Hitler into office, too, and they came for the immigrants first as well.
It should be common sense. But it isn’t. The Republican party platform in the US 4 years ago consisted of a single point: banning gay marriage. That was their entire party-wide goal for the last presidential election. No policies on taxes or anything else, just removing rights from people they don’t like.
Similarly, pancakes don’t have syrup on them. They pour motor oil over them so it doesn’t absorb and looks better in the picture. They put the cardboard under them, too, to make them fluff up better.
This is something I have a real love/hate relationship with in Overlord. In the books, we get to see a lot more of what’s going on in Momonga’s head and how his experience as an average salary worker affects his decisions in his new role as an all powerful lich and the dichotomy of how he perceives himself vs how the people of the world perceive him, which is really cool and fleshes out him as a character and the world a lot more. But then people in the new world will casually throw video game terms into their speech like “putting levels into x class,” and it really throws me out of the world.

I stopped finding this as funny when I learned that some of the “leaks” have been stuff like a person quoting a Wikipedia entry on a WW2 tank, or a recent one where somebody quoted an internationally available manual for a jet.
Still hilarious though that it’s such an issue that “Do you play War Thunder” is a question asked by the US military in job interviews.

Bread often has stuff baked into it, so what’s the difference between a loaf of bread with cheese or nuts baked into it vs. a loaf with chicken, cheese, and marina sauce baked into it.
I feel like there could be a market niche for it. Replace the tapes with something… more aesthetically pleasing, maybe hook it up to a remote so you change it between a few preset shapes easily, maybe a pair of motion sensors as an option so that it “opens” on its own, and I think there is some appeal to this as some sort of room divider or something.
Rich people will spend money on stupid things they’ll never use just to flaunt their wealth, so put a big enough price tag on it and I’m sure there would be some kind of market for it.
As of a few months ago, lemmygrad is run by them as well. I don’t remember the specifics, but there was talk of some form of taking over every other Lemmy instance as well (I know there were calls for it from at least one of the tankie communities, either lemmygrad or hexbear), and the general hostility of both lemmygrad and hexbear users was why many instances defederated from them at that time.
