Western policy is based on racist stereotypes that people outside the west can’t innovate. They lose their minds when it’s disproven.

Lol, them Westoids wouldn’t’ve went anywhere without the mathematical breakthroughs of Arab scholars. They’d still be stuck in the medieval times lmao, the Arabs literally saved their works from the Roman and Greek times, and through trade helped the euros catch up. Westoids who parrot this statement clearly don’t understand history.

Apparently, some readers here do not realize how much intellectual property China has stolen from the US over the years. Much of what they create is based on Western development, and then refined. Somewhat like reverse engineering. Why do so many Chinese come to live in the US? Because they see it as LaLa Land.

top comment from the wapo article covering this. although some commenters did astutely point out that perhaps this should not have been a surprise and maybe people who aren’t white have intelligence after all.

Damn, an advanced industrial economy, with millions of highly educated workers, and direct state ownership of besieged industries figured out how to build these components themselves?

    Who would have guessed?

But if these industries were operated like the superior capitalist economies, the entire industry would have needed billions to trillions in bailouts to keep functioning profitably. What the hell is going on in China?!? This makes no sense in my head!

When you post an emoji from one instance to a different one the emoji does not transfer to the new instance as an emoji but as an image file. This it is not it’s emoji side.

So any Hexbear emoji, posted to lemmygrad, will be larger. The same would occured is someone from lemmygrad posted an emoji to a Hexbear thread.

At least this is how I understand it.

You can easily test that, just post it on Lemmy. I’m sure the “China bad” crowd will oblige. Or rather, they will still believe it’s true, they are very good at ignoring reality.

They literally know nothing of the world outside of reddit posts. They could be pumping out phones and PC parts with chips better than ours but as long as the reddit slip keeps saying otherwise that’s all that matters.

Their mental gymnastics are really interesting. They always say the reason Chinese kids are smart is because of how strict and oppressive their parents and schooling is. So they are obviously accepting that these kids are smart… Well… smart kids make smart adults… So why think the adults in China can’t figure out making these chips? It’s like they think the kids go and grow up and then loose all their intelligence?

might be this, sorry for the wikipedia link

      https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_New_Export_Controls_on_Advanced_Computing_and_Semiconductors_to_China

the tweet might be specifically referring to the ban of American citizens working in china’s semiconductor industry

whether the tweet is an overreaction or not im not super sure, i think based on the information available to many in the west it really did look as if it were armageddon for the chinese chip industry. of course, now we now that wasnt the case and the us pulled the rug far too late
