The new Leaf will be the cheapest EV you can buy when it goes on sale this fall.

The fact this is the cheapest EV is entirely the problem.

There are cheaper electric vehicles, but they aren’t really general-purpose analogs to ICE cars. Will work for some use cases, though.

There are electric motorcycles and scooters, but they won’t provide protection from weather.

      https://motoxtasy.com/top-best-street-legal-electric-motorcycles/

There are low-speed, street-legal vehicles known in the EU as Quadricycles and the US as NEVs, but you’re talking about 25 mph, so not suitable for faster than low-speed roads.

There aren’t cheaper EVs in the US.

Elsewhere, that’s a totally different story.

There are cheaper, but they aren’t allowed to be sold here in the US.

Where’s here? This is the internet, not a country.

Is it really 29,990 or is it 29,990 and monthly subscriptions and your data?

While there’s plenty they COULD turn into subscriptions (wifi for remote access, wifi for Apple air play, weather service, directions/charger finder service, smart key profiles, etc.) I have an Airya (essentially this bigger version of this leaf) and all that’s free. You can get a subscription to like… seriusxm radio/weather but… why?

If you can keep it disconnected from the internet you can keep the company from pushing out a downgrade to introduce new subscriptions. I’m already doing it with my TV. If it doesn’t have subscriptions and it can be disconnected from the internet so it can’t sell my data or introduce new subscriptions, I might buy one.
