  • I kind of feel like people are neglecting some of this here. Like, yes, any pro tennis player would absolutely crush me. I would never get close to taking a game. However, even pro players lose points because they make mistakes. I don’t need to claim that I’m any match for a pro in order to claim that there’s a non-zero chance that they could blunder a single point.

Saying that it’s absolutely absurd that I could take a single point against someone like Serena is essentially saying that it’s absurd to suggest that there’s a decent chance Serena could make a mistake once in 48 points.

I honestly don’t know how good those odds would be, but it doesn’t seem crazy to me to suggest it could happen in around 1/10 matches.

I travel 8+ hours by train several times a week, and regularly go a day or two without access to power where I sleep. By all means, I’m not the average consumer, but the situation of “need to change while also wanting to use my headset” comes up often enough.

  • Which is a comparison that makes complete sense. When you say that someone is leading the way, you are clearly referring to them being at the forefront at the time when they were leading the way. Any system that was a trail blazer 100+ years ago should be outdated by now, unless progress stopped or went backwards in the meantime.

  • I see you’ve chosen confidence over accuracy again

This is honestly a great way of calling someone stupid, but you do realise that it can be very offensive to people with narcissistic personality disorder, right?

Joke aside, what is really stupid about this is the idea of “insulting someone without hurting there feelings”, or as you wrote

insulting someone’s actions or reasoning can sometimes carry ableist implications if we’re not careful.

When honestly insulting someone, there is typically an intent to be hurtful, the idea that you should be careful to “not use language that can offend X group” when doing so, kind of overlooks the whole situation of “insulting” going on

  • To be fair: If you live in the south, it doesn’t make much sense, but if you live a bit further north it’s the difference between getting up when the sun is a a reasonable place, or getting up in the middle of the night (winter) or the middle of the day (summer). I want it to be light out when I’m awake, not when it’s sleeping time.

Turns out it’s easier to adjust the clock than to say “work starts at 9 in the winter and at 8 in the summer”
