Thank you! I updated it. Maybe I screwed up the YT URL the first time, because I didn’t get a thumbnail automatically. So then I uploaded a thumbnail image, and I think that overwrites the URL
:D I know, right? I saw it on Mastodon (link in post) and had to pass the chuckles on. I don’t usually share stuff like this
If you only can call out horror when it’s history, what is journalism good for?
Because if you obscure the fact that this is a colonial dynamic, then it’s much easier to just present what has happened, both in the longer term and since October 7, as “Israel is just a country defending itself.”
they’re all obscuring that at the time of the post–World War I British mandate in Palestine, the population of Palestine was 90% Palestinians. And even when the UN issued its 1947 partition plan, Palestinians owned more than 94% of the land between the river and the sea.
So you can’t understand the basic hinge point in this war, like the fact that most people in Gaza, 70% of them or thereabouts, are refugees, without understanding that they got to be refugees because creating a colonial state in Palestine required expelling 750,000 Palestinians and also their descendants.
But that is sort of built into the commercial orientation of the media system, that there are many considerations that have nothing to do with serving the public good by helping provide the populace with the information that we need and a range of possible lenses to think about them. What we see instead is an orientation toward minimizing atrocities carried out by countries like the United States and Canada and their allies, which, in the case of Israel, is less an ally than an appendage.
Anti-genocide and anti-apartheid ≠ antisemitism
Thank you, kind Lemmy, I appreciate it. Getting down-voted and mocked for trying to add context that some might find useful (judgeing by the title and top-rated comment) is one of the more negative experiences I’ve had on Lemmy
Also - and I’m only familiar with the 1971 film version with Gene Wilder - Grandpa Joe is clearly the only friend, companion, and available adult in Charlie’s life who he can talk to. His mother is too busy from working to support the family. He doesn’t have friends or money to spend. And Grandpa Joe does show some guilt and awareness about not contributing more to the family. He has that great line when Charlie tries to give him a nickel for tobacco: “When a loaf of bread looks like a banquet, I’ve no right buying tobacco.”
I think Tidal scores the best among music streaming services in terms of compensating artists. I switched from Spotify to Tidal several months ago and have no regrets
That is such a funny image of Hank - pissed off look and posture, beer in front of him, tie loosened. He’s got something to say to somebody
Mouthwatering!
Wow, this hits hard. Best social commentary I’ve ever seen from a comic
Looks great :D Base coat is nice to make the finished polish look smoother. Some are less toxic (better for your nails) than colour coats. Also it makes is easier to clean the nails when taking off the polish than not using the base coat. The number one cause of bubbles is applying another coat too soon before the previous one dries. Also, shake the colour polishes, but don’t shake the base or top ones - shaking those tends to cause bubbles. My best tip is to paint your nails under good light, so you can see what you’re doing better. If you notice bubbles in real time when you’re applying polish, you have a wee bit of time to apply another stroke to get rid of them
