Wow. I thought the frontpage was bad back when I made a choice to consciously curate years ago, but I had no idea this is what it turned into.

It’s just a small multi-time fee of 500 morbillion dollars, jeez, just pay the redditorino CEO a fair price, you 3rd party bullies.

I had multireddits for my subscriptions, but I liked discovering new things. With the extreme amount of trash filtering I did to r/all, it allowed me to discover interesting places I’d have never found on my own.

I download a lot of videos when I watch on desktop. This gets rid of ads. It also preserves them, since videos can get taken down for very esoteric reasons.

I’m pretty he just wants to go take a week long nap before answering any more questions.

Depends on the bot. There are many that go into subreddits and repost old popular posts. Sometimes in subreddits you wouldn’t think of. Like, for some reason the King Of The Hill subreddit had a really bad reposting bot infestation. I guess those wholesome and kind of niche but moderately active subs are chosen because people are less likely to dig into it, but if you check on the post history it becomes clear it’s an account with no comments that is just reposting content back into subs.

Not even the commenters, but the promotion bots. With as filtered as I had my settings of r/all, I’d often see them in new (a lot of OF small timers just don’t even bother labeling themselves as NSFW). What is notable is they often post the same post to multiple subreddits at the same time. I’m talking like 20 posts back to back by the same OF bot. That’s a huge amount of activity on a chart even if in reality it’s just white noise.

If the volunteer mods hold their ground and force Reddit corporate to oust them, Reddit would need to step in to fill the void.

When Reddit forcibly opens everything back up:

Oh clearly I’m not. I just don’t understand the thinking of people demanding access. It’s like the kind of person who pounds on the door of a closed restaurant because they can see the employees inside.

I opened Apollo once and got a special splash screen. I moved Apollo off the front page of my phone display.

I see this as a positive aspect of the protest.

I am also amused that random people are pounding on the door for access, as if they think approved submitters are having a private tea party inside.

We shall see which subs stay closed past two days. A lot of moderators have said they will reopen because otherwise Reddit will remove them. Saying out loud that the protest is toothless. Only the moderators willing to be removed will have any impact. If there is a mass de-modding that requires Reddit Corporate to fill in permanently with their own mods, only then will lasting actual damage be done. Otherwise, the protest is a speedbump that Corporate won’t even feel.

I’ve continued to tell people: This won’t kill Reddit in the sense of outright turning it into a ghost town. If your only goal is to make Reddit collapse overnight, you’re going to be disappointed. The quality content that many people here enjoy is not what makes up the frontpage of r/all or what a huge amount of passive users consume. Reddit has more than enough low quality trash to backfill the frontpage and keep users occupied.

Anybody migrating should focus on porting quality content. Let reddit live long and be a dumping ground.

This is why Apollo was the only thing keeping me on the site. I took advantage of its filters. I had an extensive list of keyword filters, and over the years had filtered probably several thousand subreddits. I could actually browse r/all and find interesting and unique new to me subreddits. It was great.

Funny I know somebody who has decided to switch back to tumblr mad their time sink because of all the Reddit drama.

I believe that counter also only shows subs that have gone private, as well. Subs that decided to do restricted only posting like r/pics are still counted as “public” by the counting software.

I meant somebody would be commenting on the post itself asking questions answered by the post.

Crowds of people can be incredibly clueless. Before the blackout, there would be stickied posts explaining the whole situation in plain language, and then dozens of comments like “What’s going on I don’t understand???”
