If you add support for kbin, you’ll probably going to add support for kbin’s microblogging feature. If you added support for kbin’s microblogging, might as well add mastodon support. Heck, might as well add pixelfed support to the mix, why not? Voila, now you have a super federated app.

It’s not 3rd party app developers fault that kbin didn’t have any stable api yet. Now that they fast track the api development, I think we can expect more 3rd party apps coming soon.

You can enable it from settings -> remote control in SmartTube app. Also, if you’re using YouTube revanced, the cast button might be hidden because it was not functional. You can re-enable the cast button on YouTube revanced from revanced settings.

When casting a video, you’ll have to open the SmartTube app in your Android TV first because it’s not automatically launched when you hit the cast button in YouTube revanced. If it’s in the background or not yet running, the video won’t play.

I just tried installing SmartTube on my Chromecast Ultra today and found out it can pair with YouTube revanced. This fixed my number one issue with revanced where the cast button is not working.

Looks like they won’t publish a timelapse video after it’s all over like last year.

They did blur the screenshots though, but yeah, pretty much flexing that they can browse anything without restriction in their office, lmao.

It’s Indonesia btw. That reminds me, I do have a concern about Lemmy instances that use .id TLD (e.g. lemdro.id). It’s Indonesian TLD, so it might subject to Indonesian law, so they’ll might run into trouble if they federate with porns communities. Might be a similar situation where websites with .ly TLD got into trouble with Libyan government back then.

Back in the day, we tried to get Reddit unblocked in our country, which blocks porn websites. No amount of arguments can convince the government agency in charge of the block list that Reddit is not a porn site. They probably got tired of us pestering them and send back a whole bunch of screenshots of porns in Reddit to justify the block.

Extended downtime is common for community-run servers like this. Remember, even if the server is down for a full day every year, it’s still have 99.73% uptime! Chasing 99.999% uptime (like the big tech) for a community-run server is not reasonable because the cost (money and manpower) to do so is exponentially higher with every “9” you add in your uptime.

I really doubt that, at least for the next few years. “AI Assistant” usually means LLMs, and even M2 struggles to run them mostly due to large compute and RAM requirements. If Microsoft could somehow release a truly local AI assistant feature that can run on average windows users’ hardware, that would be shake the whole ML industry.

Microsoft has recently announced Windows Copilot, an AI-powered assistant for Windows 11. Windows Copilot sits at the side of Windows 11, and can summarize content you’re viewing in apps, rewrite it, or even explain it. Microsoft is currently testing this internally and promised to release it to testers in June before rolling it out more broadly to Windows 11 users.

Assuming this will use OpenAI API like other Microsoft’s AI products, this is going to be expensive to operate. Subsidizing it indefinitely is surely not an option. How would Microsoft monetize it? By charging subscription like GitHub Copilot, or monetizing it somehow using users data they collected? I assume it would be the latter.

I imagine we’ll hit a ceiling soon enough until the next major breakthrough is found. There is also concern about gathering good training data in the future as the internet started to get littered with AI generated contents. I thin I read an article earlier about how a machine learning system perform worse if it’s trained with secondary data generated by another ML system.

I read a new article that said it remains to be seen whether P92 will allow users to see posts from other site (they’ll broadcast to ActivityPub but undecided about displaying contents from federated servers): https://tech.co/news/meta-decentralized-social-media

A source close to the project also told MoneyControl that “the plan as of now is that the MVP (minimum viable product) will definitely allow our users to broadcast posts to people on other servers”, but admitted the company is yet to decide whether to allow users “to follow and view the content of people on other servers.”

The FOSS community is wary due to “embrace, extend, extinguish” approach by various tech giants in the past. When a tech giant suddenly want to embrace federation while offering no details whatsoever, people are right to be wary.

Some feedback if you don’t mind:

• Full Height view. It’s like the full width view, but display the image without any cropping.
• Tap and hold to show image in full screen, release to close. Very useful for compact views. Also should works for articles thumbnails.
• Native imgur support. Right now it’s treated as a web page. If it’ll require using paid API, just disregard this until you have some funding.
• Preload images when on wifi (optional setting). Basically preload the next N images in the list so they’ll appear instantly.
• Show full community names and user name. Right now it only show the community name and user name, but not the instance name. This is confusing if you subscribed to multiple communities with the same name from multiple instances. Same for usernames.
• option to toggle denser comments views with minimal whitespace.

If game companies would stop consolidating themselves into bigger and bigger corporations, that would be great. The bigger the company, the more profits they need in order to sustain themselves at their size. There is only so much you can profit from games without turning them into microtransaction mess. There must be a sweet spot for game company size so they’re able to produce AAA games without needing to add microtransaction to make the game profitable to pay their employees.

I’m still going back from time to time to promote fediverse and participate in the protest posts. I’m still spending more time here though.
