It is perfectly valid to describe the outcome this way. I agree this is indeed the case. Google Talk gave way to other options deemed better too. Actually it did not gain much traction in my country either.

I agree with you on that. That’s why I find this anti-Meta pact or manifesto or whatever naive and premature.
Just if there are people who insist on banning anything Meta, they are welcome to do so in their instances. Interoperability is still preserved. They are not adding anything to the protocol. Banning instances is part of the interoperability. I think this is where our opinion differs.

The problem is more about Reddit not giving a fuxk to the users who have made the platform. They obviously know in advance what 3rd party apps and tools people have been using. If they are really keen on keeping the matter civil, Reddit could have granted them free or reasonable access but it prefers not to. I think this is pretty telling.
Well you are not required to use any software from Western Digital with its disks. SATA is an industry standard.
I wouldn’t recommend a Pi 4 even if you can get one at the listed price. It is fast enough but it lacks the interface and connectivity for a decent NAS.
Dig out an old computer and stuff it with a SSD and a handful of HDDs. And you have a decent start.
It is no doubt a good thing for them to at least try to be “transparent”. I hope it is really their intention. I was a customer but I have migrated to selfhost Bitwarden (with Vaultwarden) already.
It has a newer kernel and more bells and whistles. Performance-wise I dun think it is that different from 10, except for newer hardware. If it is for gaming, I dun think it matters much. The recent versions are stable enough and Microsoft has ironed out enough kinks already.
If you want to unleash the full potential of an all-flash config and be futureproof, better get one that comes with full width M.2, i.e. x4 with at least PCIe gen 4 connectivity. That only leaves you x86 unless you want something really exotic.
