Since gaming on linux has made ridiculous improvements im running it fulltime on my desktop machine. But I ran it on my laptops as sole OS for about 15 years now.

For router firmware i bought an archer c7 v5 last year (50€) and am running OpenWRT now. It’s sitting behind my ISPs router, but for that i don’t care.

Banking App would be really difficult since this is a huge security operation with liabilities. And discord would be nice to replace since it just fucks you and steals your data without giving it a second thought but there is no conpetitor i know of.

Because they are not publicly traded, i hope it stays that way

It surely is, it has also been really great to see the growing support for all those games over the last years. Sad to see some games still being borked with no valid reason (Pubg e.g., with the developers stating the game can run on linux with no problems at all, they still will block it bc they are scared of hackers or some other lame excuse).

Every problem I had playing games on Linux could be fixed by some kind stranger on there offering a command or sth. else (sometimes even stuff thats not related to linux at all lol)

• DXVK (compatibility layer for games created with the DirectX Framework by MS)
• Lutris (game launcher for stuff you bought outside of steam, e.g. GOG, Epic, Uplay, etc.)
• Steam and maybe Proton but idk.
• the atom thing could be protondb.com, where you can look up if your game will run on linux and what fixes / commands are available

Windows is shit, but the days where you have to do configuration if you don’t use some obscure notebook in one of the most used linux distros is over. I’d say gnome e.g. is pretty close to macos UI wise. There is also Hackintosh if you can’t live without it.

As for why I particularly hate apple:

• Bizarre pricing for comparably low tier Hardware (although not really comparable since apple makes their own ARM silicone)
• Bad repairability, including flimsy collabs to produce some overpriced block of metal just to change an jphone battery lol
• Walled garden / closed ecosystem. Blocking third party apps for users “security”. All this green bubble / blue bubble bullshit.
• productivity and design wise alright machines, but utter trash when it comes to gaming.
