I find the screen technology itself to be interesting, but it’s more a competition to e-ink devices than to common tablets. However, the price is too high to be well received, unfortunately. I love reading devices, but the best I could do is a 10yo refurbished one. I wonder why they’re always so expensive…

Oh, nothing special. My work life has been a mess, from mostly informal jobs to a public employee gone wrong, and now helping a relative with a small business.

There are some benefits in some circumstances, but a lot of people who use linux do so not because of any tangible benefit, but because they support open source, and don’t like the idea of one (arguably a couple) big corporation having a monopoly of that magnitude and deciding alone the way tech should evolve.

Speaking for myself, I’m from a developing country, and I mostly use dated tech, some of which don’t even support windows anymore, and it gives me the possibility of extending the lifespan of my stuff. This is the main tangible benefit for me.

A few months ago, I got the idea of looking for scripts of some movies I watched, liked the concept or some part of it, but disliked the overall execution, and doing a revamp of it. I have no idea of where to post my scripts, or if anyone would be interested in reading them, but your meme made me rethink and reconsider this idea. Thank you.

Sometimes I wonder if some companies or groups are paying to publish “news” about genz using this or that, as a way to promote their stuff. It looks to me as a good and cheap tactic, since some younger people would look into the “trend”, trying not to miss it, while some older people would look into it trying to stay “cool” and not look out of fashion.

But then I think again, and it looks like too much of a conspiracy theory. Why does my brain do that?

I’m still trying to understand what people do in their phones that they need to run the very latest model with the specs of a laptop. Mine is from 2018 and is doing the job nicely. What am I missing out there?

Yes, this is often used as a way to criticize how our society assimilated the concept of evolutionary success, as if it’s a great thing by itself, or even the ultimate goal of a species, or whatever in those lines, when evolution actually “doesn’t care” at all about how bad the individuals live, but just about the fact that they’re reproducing, and that’s it.

I have seen some people having the inverse transition, blending with their environment and communities as they got older. Perhaps it’s more like a cultural thing than a personal process. It’s hard not to become selfish in our society model.

If the router provided by my isp won’t allow me to change the dns server, is there a workaround for having to set the local dns server on each device that doesn’t involve getting a new router?

It’s not so simple. I’ve been trying to go the foss self-hosted way, as well as help p2p projects, and I got stuck because I’m behind a cgnat, unable to forward ports, and my shitty isp has no ipv6. I can’t afford vpns at the moment, so I got stuck. Besides, all that needed a lot of tech skills most people won’t have. This is a serious barrier of entry for a lot of people.

Add industrial automation to the list.

I still have a tablet that came with windows 8. That thing was terrible from day 0 and got unusable after a few updates. Fortunately, it’s running android x86 for a few years like a charm.

I find it curious to see people having this sort of insecurity (in some cases, some sort of aversion) with playing older games, while they don’t have it with other media, like books or music.
