Literally no reason not to use metric, idc who or where you are
Gimmicks is how you justify planned obsolescence.
Revenge bedtime syndrome. It’s legit.

You should vocalize it to the owner (or at least management) if you can. You’d be surprised what comes of it.
I did this once with a restaurant/bar owner, and she was very understanding. Once I took the time to explain how I didn’t wanna be subjected to everything that a setup like that brings, she empathized and actually got a standalone website.
Many people aren’t aware until you make em aware. And whether they feel the same or not from a consumer standpoint, at least they’ll know that there’s people out there who do care, and it affects business. And usually, if it affects business, it doesn’t matter what their personal feelings towards it are. A good business owner will be sure to adjust because they learned something new about the market.
I’d love to, but I can’t—it’s built without writing code.
The closest I can get to “open sourcing” it is freely allowing everyone to clone it and modify it as they see fit, but limited to the platforms I built it on (Notion, Coda, Airtable, Baserow, etc.).
Sounds like an efficient way for that person to self-filter outta your life.
This might make some people mad, but I’m actually glad they didn’t change anything. I don’t like the enshittification of things, but I do like that the worse things get, the more motivated people are to organize, move, and enact change (like migrating to the Fediverse).
Unfortunately, things often have to get much worse before they get better. Humans have a tendency to do that, oftentimes when it’s too late. Of course with some things, it matters more than others.
Nice, thanks for sharing.
I never participated on Reddit, but I used it to check in on tech stuff and other various interests. I didn’t spend a lotta time on it, but it was definitely the platform that I spent time on the most.
When all the third-party stuff started happening, I decided to take the principled stand and quit using it, but I was worried it was gonna be difficult.
I was wrong. It was super easy ditching it.
Even though it was the “social” platform I was spending the most time on, it also felt like the easiest to replace—mostly because that content could be found elsewhere. This kinda made me realize that Reddit doesn’t have a moat, and it confirmed what I knew all along—the value of the platform is derived from its users. So when there’s enough collective will to do something (in this case, fight against network effects), it’s incredibly powerful.
So I used this free tool I built called Reddit Account Manager to gather all my subscriptions, bookmarks, etc., and then Power Delete Suite to delete all my accounts.
I noticed that my time spent online in general had also decreased.
10/10 would recommend.
Creating revenue streams is far more valuable than cutting costs.
Apple does a phenomenal job in providing solutions to problems they created in the first place.
regardless of the company
This is key.
“Planned obsolescence tends to work best when a producer has at least an oligopoly. Before introducing a planned obsolescence, the producer has to know that the customer is at least somewhat likely to buy a replacement from them in the form of brand loyalty. In these cases of planned obsolescence, there is an information asymmetry between the producer, who knows how long the product was designed to last, and the customer, who does not. When a market becomes more competitive, product lifespans tend to increase.”
Sideloading is supposedly on the way. No ETA though.
I mean yeah, adopting USB-C is great (even though they only did it because of the backlash in the EU), but…
“While the new standard iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus are equipped with a USB-C port, data transfer over a cable remains limited to USB 2.0 speeds of up to 480 Mbps, which is equal to the Lightning port on previous iPhones.”
Only the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max support USB 3 data transfer speeds of up to 10 Gbps over a cable. (Cable/adapter sold separately.)
So the speeds are still being throttled.
Plus, both the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus are at a 60Hz refresh rate. Idk if I’d consider these “good iterative updates” tbh.
I like the stock.
#AdoptDontShop and don’t support breeders/puppy mills.
No such thing as a “pure bred” dog anyways.
Plus, mutts have far fewer health problems. “Pure breeds” are largely inbred and products of incest.
