Can someone please explain? Does the US only have two political parties? That sounds horrendously undemocratic. I know next to nothing about US politics so I may be wrong.

Edit: Also, why is one party called “Democratic” and the other “Republican”? Does this make the Republican party non-democratic? Is this a non-official naming scheme that people created or does seriously only one of them support democracy? Thank you for the answers :)

Ahhh yes. In capitalism, if you create a machine that can replace say, 10 people, you don’t give them 1/10 of the work. You fire them and maybe hire someone to operate it.

Machines and human workers can coexist. They don’t have to replace them.

Edit: Of course they should replace them, but only after we get good living conditions for unemployed people, which are currently non-existent.

This. I tried to self-host Piped and it was a PITA. I am experienced in self-hosting but setting it up behind a reverse proxy was next to impossible and basically no guides exist.

While I do agree that most things in life are somehow connected to politics and that it needs to be discussed, when I come somewhere, in real life or online, and I want to chill out, I really don’t want to hear about it. Political communities exist, even here on Lemmy. Let’s keep politics out of cooking, meme, and other not politically oriented communities please :)

Ok. So do you think EV makers make it easy to repair them? Because they sure as hell don’t. On paper you can, I agree with that. But they lock the software and hardware in bizzare ways, so that you have to go to a certified mechanic.

Have you ever fixed an older combustion engine vehicle? You watch a youtube video and a few hours later, you can, in most cases, at least get the car to a state so you can drive it to a mechanic. On modern combustion engine vehicles this is still possible, although a bit more difficult.

To be honest, if someone is stupid enough to throw burning things into the trash can, I don’t really think you can make them change their mind.

Of course, if you mean the ash tray on some trash cans. A normal ash tray, like the one on a table, however, will still get emptied into a trash can.

Yeah man, those people are pieces of shit. I also extunguished many burning trash cans in my time.

That’s why, back when I used to smoke, I had to be 100% sure the cigarette was not even warm (by touching the end with my finger) before throwing it out.

I mean, if you dip it in water or make sure it’s not burning/warm to the touch when you throw it out, no harm can be done. I do agree with you about burning cigarette butts though.
