omg, I’ve literally asked by saying, “I know it’s probably right in front of me, but my brain has decided to stop working. please help, I’m an idiot” Almost every time it’s 6 inches from where I was looking. or behind me.

10·4 months agoThey don’t yell low battery in my ears. They don’t fall out of ears and get lost (i have weird ear holes) I have really comfortable headphones that don’t pinch my ears that I can wear for hours.
Most importantly they DO NOT YELL LOW BATTERY IN MY EARS when I have a comfortable volume set.
Oh, Agreed 100% when it’s broken beyond repair. But replacement of a working (yet now inefficient old) AC doesn’t save money necessarily. Not when new units are so expensive.
We are in the south, not Texas, and really need to replace our almost 25 yr old AC. We’ve been repairing and trying to get another season out of it for the last 3 years.
So it’d take 25 years to have enough savings on the power bill (saving $100 a month for 6 months of summer)
Assuming the power company never raised rates in the coming years.
Imagining the body snatcher coming back to the eggy pod and waking us up… “screeeech this sucks, take your life back, too much stresssssss” as they shove us out and climb into the eggy pod.

memes@lemmy.world•I looked it up. I struggle to live not as well as a Norwegian prisoner.
72·7 months agoIf you are safe from the prisoners and guards, get clean accommodations, are well fed, get outside/gym time for fitness, medical care, time to learn a vocation or study, occasional entertainment time (tv or whatever)… the only thing missing is a romantic partner… honestly, it sounds as good as an all inclusive retreat/vacation.
I imagine not having control over your own life for years at a time would wear one down. But months? If I knew my outside people weren’t suffering because of my actions, it sounds kind of nice.
But I’m an introvert that works from home, so, I’d miss my pets.
Ask about propranolol - it’s a beta blocker.
It was prescribed to a family member for stage fright that was causing physical symptoms.
The nervousness is still there, but the control of the body came back.
Imagine trying to play drums or something and your hands shaking so bad you can’t hold the drumsticks…
If the xanax is messing with your thinking or energy, and you are medically cleared, a beta-blocker might help.
Wow, so this is basically the technique I started when a close family member was dying of cancer.
“But if you’re at dinner, then you’re at dinner and you enjoy that”
I just want to add to this, give yourself permission to fully enjoy it and be happy in the moment. Don’t beat yourself up for feeling joy when you know others are still in crisis.
Make a list on paper or digital and let all the problems wait while you enjoy the moment. It’s okay to enjoy the moment.

Ha, true! I burn easy, I hate missing a spot when applying sunscreen. For her sake, I hope it’s both.
Yeah, she really really pale, or coated in sunscreen.
What if you have one fat cat and one skinny cat? …oh wait, the fat one rules us all… must go give her a treat in penance for forgetting that for a moment.

2·9 months agoOMG - that’s the same printer we have… it’s the only one that still works!!
Some of the plastic pieces have gotten brittle and broken - I’ve been trying to figure out how to 3-D print replacements. (they broke before 3D printing was a thing and I don’t have the broken bits anymore)
I’ve replaced the rollers once and serviced it myself over the years.
It’s valuable enough to fight over it when my Last Will and Testament is read… If there’s a fire, save the people, save the cats, save that 1998 printer - the rest can burn and be replaced.

memes@lemmy.world•What's been your most painful parent tech support moment?English
4·9 months agoI make sure the important stuff is backed up to external drive on the computers I tech support for family and friends.
So I say, “yeah, it says that, but they are lying. unplug it. If it’s not working when it comes back on, I’ll come over and restore it. You won’t lose anything, we’ve got backups just for this reason.”
So far, I haven’t had to go and restore anything. But one of them buys me lunch, so I go and shoot the shit and have a good time for big Windows updates about once a quarter.
I still have the throw blanket.
