Yeah the decline of union membership is what I feel really limits working class political power in the US. We’ve basically ceded all our power (I understand the reasons are not so simple), and our concept of solidarity. I don’t know how we can really build any persistent (and effective) movement without organized labor.

No, we’re still federated with them. I’m not sure which comments you can’t see. I’ve personally blocked a few of the most insufferable users for my blood pressures sake. You will see weekly (or more frequent) posts like this on .world where they complain about leftist instances and the comments are full of exhortations to block or defederate from lemmygrad, .ml and hexbear.

I’m someone with a leg in both tendencies, as it were. I purposely avoid getting too into the theory weeds, in favor of interacting with actual people. I see the word “tankie” used veeerrryyy liberally lately, and it feels like it doesn’t signify very much. Respectfully, thinking about “immediately after the revolution” is getting way ahead of yourself, at least in relation to who you work with today.

I don’t think they really are “light years ahead of the right”. Most of the difference as far as I can tell is in how they talk-- not what they do. Liberals fundamentally just believe in the status quo. MLK Jr saw it the same way when he described " the white moderate" as the greatest obstacle to change.

I’m definitely willing to engage liberals (and even conservatives) in honest conversation when I feel the context warrants the effort. Lemmy rarely seems to qualify.

Jesus Christ stop with this “tankies” bullshit already. Go outside. I fucking wish there were millions of “tankies” out there swaying US elections, but there aren’t. Attacks land most solidly when they are based in truths. I personally did not vote for Harris because of her unapologetic support for Israel’s genocide. How many other people did the same? A hundred thousand maybe? A couple hundred thousand?

The democrats fucked up by assuming that “not Trump” would get out the vote like it did in 2020. Unfortunately, they haven’t done shit for people since then. They’ve had 4 years to get shit done that nobody could argue with, but they didn’t. Instead, they took a hard right turn in the campaign (Gaza, border policy, “muscular military”, etc). Predictably, this didn’t " energize the base".

Democrat leadership decided fascism was preferable to any capital concessions to the working class. It wasn’t the first time, and it won’t be the last.
