  • I finally stopped dual booting Windows after I got the “You can’t log into this account due to repeated log in attempts or restarts, wait 2 hours” BS I ran into a few days ago. Sadly there is one game I can’t get working on Linux or a virtual machine, and one laptop feature that will not work until the maintainer of my device’s Linux drivers manages to get it working for my specific model, but being forced out of my own system and told I’m not allowed to access it for 2 hours is intolerable, and the fact its baked into the OS, and can’t be disabled, even more so.

I’m not entirely sure how they do it, but I do know alot of information is relayed to websites that can be used to fingerprint and track you. Even if you aren’t logged in they know where you are and what device you are using. Alot of this depends on how hardened the browser you are using is, because its entirely up to the browser to block this information.

You can try to confuse the data a bit with a VPN, but I’m not sure if a VPN alone counts for much these days.

If you really want no fingerprint you can try either of these two technologies:

TOR is a way to browse the internet that makes it very hard to fingerprint you. The network’s bandwidth is limited and there are people in oppressive regimes who legitimately need this though, so I think it would be a waste to use it for regular browsing.

WHONIX is used by Edward Snowden himself. Its an OS within a virtual machine that is entirely reset everytime its run. It has alot of built-in privacy tools, but its not very convenient to use.

I personally use Brave with as many shield options on as possible, alongside a VPN when I think its necessary. On mobile I sometimes use Kiwi, which is unfortunately no longer available. Its the only browser I’ve found that actually masks whether your device is a phone or PC.

I’m not saying it doesn’t work, there are alot of things I think China does right, and I by no means think these representative republics of the west are anything more than veiled oligarchies, as China is a veiled technocracy. I just don’t think its right to call any regime that isn’t accountable to its population a democrarcy, I don’t think its even right to call republics with infrequent or no referendums a democracy.

  • Except they have a very tiered system, where elections only occur for positions at the lowest level, and the higher tier the position is the less accountable they are to the will of the people. There is no governance by the people there, I would argue there isn’t in most countries that claim to be democratic, but its even more blatant in a system where the rulers aren’t even representatives of the people, just representatives of a slightly lower tier of the only legal party.
