Ahh man that’s a pain, my old notebook has no sata and only 32gb of emmc (which I’m tempted to remove and add a larger chip), but it’s only being used for my 3D printer so it’s not really a pressing need yet.

Try booting your installer without UEFI - I have an old x99 WS IPMI board I spun up with NixOS and has so many issues using the EFI / UEFI installer.
Admittedly that thing pulls 60w at idle, so promptly turned it off 😅
Admittedly that might be the issue, I feel I’ve walked into Linux at the right time. Lots of community support, knowledge being shared openly with great outcomes.
Be aware that this is a community project - you may not see the best OOBE for the latest models from ASUS.
Had you installed anything from the ASUS Linux crew? https://asus-linux.org/
NixOS also have hardware modules for many laptops: https://github.com/NixOS/nixos-hardware/tree/master
For my specific model: https://github.com/NixOS/nixos-hardware/blob/master/asus/zephyrus/ga401/default.nix
My G14 is still going strong, and it’s 4? 5? years old. I’m the second owner too.
What doesn’t work under Linux? Backlight control, keyboard backlight (including RGB on other models) is well supported, anime matrix works too. I can easily set charge limits, fan speeds and power profiles.
My model doesn’t have a webcam but the built in mics work well.
ASUS laptops have a great community behind them.
Depends on the material. ABS would be a decent material for this application - as long as you have a decent enough setup to scrub / clean the air in the chamber / room.
PLA would have a hard time in that position, PETG might be OK, Nylon may creep after too many heat cycles. Depending on how hot those parts get this is.
Oh man, that’s when they activate the ad blocker blocker blocker.
My nexus one had an OLED display iirc, thing had huge volumes of burnin after 12 months.
I’ve not seen burnin on any of my subsequent devices, my S10+ is still going strong since 2019. Shame about the Samsung soc.
I’ve found there are still useful chunks of information on niche topics I follow only found on Reddit. I’ll poke in see what I need to and drop out. No browsing, no posting, upvotes or account logins.
I’ve got more time for other things since ditching reddit, Lemmy is cool and all but I’ve lost that itch. The memes are pretty stale here and the communities I can browse every couple of days and keep up-to-date.
Overall it’s been a good change for me, thanks reddit for shooting yourselves in the foot.
Oh man flashbacks to those, I remember they were considered antiquated when I was first getting into PCs 20+ years ago 🫠
