It hasn’t even begun! Post IPO there’ll be a big push for profitability which will be when it begins.
It wouldn’t matter to them really. Just look at how many people have gmail accounts.
They don’t even have to send the whole messages back to base. They could be categorizing your messages in to themes and sending that back to base as small category flags. Use that to build a profile on you and use those for advertising to you.
You mention something on the theme of ‘broken boiler’ in a message, that gets analyzed on the client in to a category of ‘interest in heating / boiler repair’, plus some adjacent categories based on your demographic. The categorization gets sent back and the next website you visit has an ad for British Gas boiler repair.
Well you type messages in in plain text and they decrypt it to show you the messages at the other end. So they can do the nefarious processing on the client side and send back results to the mother ship. E2EE is only good when you trust the two ends, but with WhatsApp and Messenger you shouldn’t trust the ends.
Deleting your account doesnt delete your content AFAIK.
The problem with micro USB is that hardly anyone ever had issues with the ports or cables on mini USB, then micro USB comes along with it’s massive 10000 cycles, but the cables break so easily so loads of people have problems with them. All because some people wanted smaller ports.
I’m waiting for the news that my automatic and Swiss quartz watches have become obsolete. That’d be news!
It also doesn’t add up if you’re getting twice the heating per joule of input if you can only input a quarter the number of joules as your source is limited.
A very convenient bug

If you’re not a world leading cryptographer and security expert then you vouching for something isn’t worth much. It’s just repeating others opinions without having done the work to verify these tools are as good as they claim. Any or all of these could have issues and weaknesses that you don’t know about.
Everything google touches turns to shit. Unfortunately they have ideas about owning the web and I cannot tell them to fuck off hard enough
I’ve been using Thunderbird almost 20 years. It’s about to start having a makeover, so that could be interesting.
Multi high and differing refresh rate HDR monitor setups require Windows or OSX to use to their full potential.
I tried Opensuse, I didn’t like it. It sort of felt just a bit off and I think a large majority of that was Yast’s fault. Debian and Arch based distros I think will remain my preference for some time given the recent events.
You dont need a google account to run an android phone. Look in to Fdroid and Aurora store. You can disable, although not remove, a lot of the google services too. It’s not perfect de googleing as they still track you through hidden built in services like the one that the phone uses to check it’s online.

I’m pretty happy with this lot and at the moment I’m not sure what I want to add. Perhaps some RSS reader, but I don’t think that’ll see much use tbh.
I have an Ubuntu VM running on my Proxmox server. It just exports some folders over NFS that I mount from my laptops and PC. Then I have Nextcloud running in a separate VM so my phone can upload photos. The NC storage is all the NFS mounted folders from the NAS. Simple and works.
