It’s strange here in the US too. I don’t know anyone that has a problem with that. That kind of puritanical attitude about drinking is not the prevailing sentiment here. Sure, my friends and I aren’t getting plastered at BBQ’s like we did in college, but it’s not like we aren’t having some beers at a cookout just because half of us have kids now. It’s just a vocal religious minority making a lot of noise. Don’t get me wrong, this country does have a different, more uptight, relationship with alcohol than Europe, but it’s not nearly as extreme as it may appear online and in media.
I agree there. Despite being a horrible person off screen, Ezra Miller can actually act with good material, We Need to Talk About Kevin, and The Perks of Being a Wallflower are proof of that.
I think as you alluded to, the bigger problem was that Snyder’s take on Barry Allen was ill-conceived from the beginning. Ezra may have been a good fit for Snyder’s vision for the character but his vision was Barry Allen in name only.
I find it very amusing that the CW managed to do the character so much better for nine years and with a fraction of the resources.
Yes, that’s the Major League Soccer team I’m referring to. As I said, there are plenty of Messi fans that call the sport soccer. Your claim is objectively false.
He plays for Inter Miami in the MLS. I assure you, plenty of Messi fans use the term soccer.
Obviously you know I was referring to association football. I’m aware of the etymology of soccer
It’s pretty annoying when some rando on the internet pretends not to understand what you were referring to, isn’t it?
Messi is the Toy Story of soccer.
Edit: Ah, never change lemmings. 🙄
The article suggested it was a bug, not me. My use of it was only in reference to the article so it’s not a point I’m going to defend.
I agree. There’s also just no reason to give Meta the benefit of the doubt here. Bug or not they’ve done nothing to earn such a charitable response from anyone.
Two of my favorite things. Cats and The Simpsons. Now that’s what I call a cromulent post!

Outer space is a hoax made up by Big Planetarium to earn extra money between Pink Floyd laser shows.
It’s a joke. But to be more specific, it’s a recycled joke. Here’s a link to a screenshot of the same joke via reddit July 25th 2021. I’m not going to bother finding out when that, presumably original, tweet was made as it doesn’t really add anything to the point but I’m sure you can do it yourself OP.
The article in the reddit post you shared is misleading. According to the S1 filed with the SEC, spez’s current base pay is $450,000; in 2023 he got roughly $792,000 in performance-based bonuses. The rest of that 193 million is options.
If you go with the first option please don’t migrate the community to Lemmy.world. There’s nothing necessarily wrong with the way that instance is run but they already have reddit@lemmy.world. Plus I believe as a matter of principle that we need to stop the community consolidation on that instance and spread out for the health of the threadiverse as a whole.
Personally I’d just switch the comm to mod post only mode and let the admins deal with it if someone ends up asking to take over down the road. There are plenty of other comms I can go to if I want to gawk at Reddit’s boneheaded decisions.
An article titled “Decentralized Social Media Is the Only Alternative to the Tech Oligarchy” hit the front page of r/technology and the top comment mentioned lemmy as a reddit alternative. Although the comment was removed when the OP later edited it to include a direct link to join-lemmy.org. Which probably indicates those mods have automod configured to automatically remove links to that site. But the good news is, it still got a lot of attention. It’ll be interesting to see if any instance admins will be able to verify an uptick in account registrations over the next few days.
