Been using Summit, good so far.
There are reactionaries there :/ For instance they make fun of content warnings for vegans. I knew then that wasn’t the place for me.
I was gifted a reverb g2 some years ago. It was ok, had some problems getting custom bindings to work in Skyrim VR that killed the game for me. I want the index next since it will have linux support and hopefully won’t die like WMR did but I also want to wait for the next index, whatever upgraded headset they make next.
Nah mental hospitals are prisons, it might feel nicer when you have control but on the other side it is a nightmare.
I think people are too terminally online and use these phrases to justify being an ass to someone not in the know. In reddit it was always a mod getting pissed at someone having a different opinion (and no I’m not talking about being racist as a different opinion) or asking questions because they don’t know about the subject. They cry sealion and ban the person. Other people say I don’t think they were a sealion, and get banned too. Really it seems more like a, “I disagree and have nothing more to say and now will ban you.”
I think it’s fine to ask questions, and point out if there is a flaw in someone’s logic. If someone wants to stop talking then that’s fine and should be respected. But this comic makes it seem like the lady is racist for no reason and the sea lion is fine until the last 3 panels when the sea lion doesn’t leave after being told to go away.
I’ve heard this term before from a power mod and I’m surprised that this comes from a webcomic that doesn’t even fit any time I’ve seen someone cry sealion. When I read the Wikipedia page it describes something else than the comic which I can agree more with, the author is quoted as saying, “The core of what I set out to criticize is just the notion that any random patient stranger should feel entitled to as much of someone’s attention as they want.” Idk the rest of the Wikipedia page talks more of mind reading, you can’t tell what someone means online since there is no tone and you don’t know the other person well enough. If they are just doing the first 3 panels then it is fine. The last time I saw a “sealion” happen was when mods of a sub announced a new unpopular rule that they knew people would leave the sub because of and anyone who disagreed were called a sealion and banned.
Sorry for ranting about this, I just now was reminded of why I hate this term that is usually misused because of your comment. Feel free to ignore me, I don’t think I deserve some random person’s undivided attention, plus arguments/debates stress me out anyway.
I just read this on chapo.chat, what a rollercoaster ride! You can read the admin update here, it looks like they will keep their domain since the auction was cancelled🤞
Admin response
you do not need to do anything
i am so sorry for the confusion, honestly the whole situation is confusing.
Years ago when we changed to hexbear.net an admin bought the domain name from a domain registrar.
That admin had things come up and wasn’t able to be as active or available.
A small issue with paying for the domain name for the year 2025 happened and the payment was 1 day late.
The domain registrar (digital landlord) took the payment and also put the domain “hexbear.net” up for auction pointing to policy that says if you are late on payment they can auction your domain name.
The admin who owns the domain escalated the issue to the top level up support for the domain registrar. During that time we tried a technical route for moving the domain name to a new registrar, which we did not expect to work. The technical route had a 5 day delay on finding out if it worked or not, during that time is when we set up the vote for what name the community would want in the event we lost hexbear.net
At this moment we still do not know if we have it or not so we are continuing with moving towards hexbear.chat but think that we might have mitigated the worst case scenario with a malicious person getting the hexbear.net domain through the aforementioned technical route.
We are currently working on an updated post to give all the info we have at this time.
j_s bidder mystery possibly solved
Glad it’s resolved: If anyone is curious on the behind-the-scenes the j_s bidder was planning to return the domain but maybe not in the best way. They found a bug in Sav’s site that allowed them to bid without authorizations being placed, and on another account they managed to “win an auction” for low dollar value domain AND transferred it out somehow. Maybe they noticed, might be why their auction interface was in maintenance mode immediately as this was going on (archive from 19 Feb 2025 10:26:35 UTC https://archive.is/qsVg6 ).
