  • Nope. The Nordic countries are still controlled by capitalists, they (akd most of western Europe as well) just have given the workers some welfare policies in order to appease them and stop any revolutionary ideas. It’s no coincidence that these policies were in place while the Eastern bloc was around and they began to dismantle the welfare state as soon as the USSR fell and they felt they could get away with it.

(Disclaimer: I’m not saying that the welfare state is evil, and that we’d be better with the shitty US way of doing things)

  • It’s whitewashing because it’s implying that genocide, leftist suppression, etc are the exclusive characteristics of a fascistic system instead of business as usual under capitalism. This removes the bad aspects of capitalism (“if this is happening it’s because the US has turned fash, it’s not capitalism’s fault”).

Maybe it’s different in the US and other cultures, but as an atheist I’ve never seen the phrase as a very religious thing. I say “merry Christmas” and “happy holidays” indistinctly and I’ve never seen anyone offended by the use of either, independtly of their faith (or lack thereof).

I say “merry Christmas” on the actual Christmas day though.

In Spain we don’t. They’re in regular, unrefrigerated shelves.

Edit: but we (at least in my circles) keep them refrigerated at home, although I don’t know how necessary it is (I suppose it depends on the climate?)

Well no, I dont eat that much meat. I usually eat chicken, turkey and bit of pork and beef. Lamb is much rarer and snails are more of a social food that I don’t cook at home, so I only eat them like 6-8 times a year.

I do eat different kinds of fish regularly, though, and I eat a healthy amount of veggies and non-animals but they also aren’t that varied. Like I usually eat rice, potatoes, artichokes, eggplant, lettuce, spinach, broccoli, lentils, peppers and soy products (tofu, miso paste, etc) + aromatics like onion and garlic.

I’ve eaten chicken, turkey, sheep, cow, pig, duck, rabbit, snail, deer and horse. It’s a bit more than 3, and that’s just the general category (for example, counting boars and pigs as only one type) and only land animals. If we list each fish species, crabs, squids, calamari…
