Better advice would be do it unto others before they do it unto you.

Uniquitous@lemmy.oneto Free and Open Source Software@beehaw.org•Open Source Is Struggling And It’s Not Big Tech That Is To BlameEnglish1·2 years agoI put it to you that ideals may constitute a scratchable itch.
Uniquitous@lemmy.oneto Free and Open Source Software@beehaw.org•Open Source Is Struggling And It’s Not Big Tech That Is To BlameEnglish0·2 years agoI suppose the thing is, I personally wouldn’t care much if anyone else used it or not, my itch has been scratched. If someone else finds it of use, great! If they need changes, they’ve got the code and can get crackin’ on it themselves. Or, they can pay me to do it if we can agree on a price. Outside of that I have no expectations.
Uniquitous@lemmy.oneto Free and Open Source Software@beehaw.org•Open Source Is Struggling And It’s Not Big Tech That Is To BlameEnglish0·2 years agoAs I understood it, one of the foundations of open source development is scratching your own itches, then putting what you made up for grabs in case it scratches someone else’s. There shouldn’t be any expectation of support on your part beyond an email or two. The code’s out there if they want to scratch the itch a different way. It’s kind of a homesteader ethic.

Uniquitous@lemmy.oneto Memes@lemmy.ml•‘No Way To Prevent This,’ Says Only Nation Where This Regularly HappensEnglish3·2 years agoThat’s fair. I’d probably be a lot more motivated to leave if I had kids to think about.
Uniquitous@lemmy.oneto Memes@lemmy.ml•‘No Way To Prevent This,’ Says Only Nation Where This Regularly HappensEnglish14·2 years agoThere are fewer protests these days because people are catching on that they don’t accomplish dick. As to leaving, people have families. Not just their immediate family but think aunts, uncles, cousins. It’s not trivial to leave all that behind and move somewhere where you know no one and have no support structure, and maybe you don’t even speak the language. And to even consider it, you’ve got to have the time and money to expend on moving, and your destination country has to agree to let you in. It’s not a simple undertaking.
Uniquitous@lemmy.oneto Memes@lemmy.ml•‘No Way To Prevent This,’ Says Only Nation Where This Regularly HappensEnglish202·2 years agoWhat else is there to do but accept it? It isn’t like our politicians have the will to do anything about it. Peaceful protest falls on deaf ears. The gun crazies would gladly die in a blaze of glory rather than be disarmed. The country is awash in guns and ammunition. So please do tell, oh wise outsider, what the hell a normal person is supposed to do about it?
Uniquitous@lemmy.oneto Technology@beehaw.org•John Riccitiello steps down as CEO of Unity after pricing battleEnglish1·2 years agoI’ve worked in software development for over 20 years, and I stand by what I said. If you’re that tied to a specific implementation, you’ve fucked yourself and you deserve to fail. You can copy most of your resources over, the rest is just a matter of porting your logic.
Uniquitous@lemmy.oneto Technology@beehaw.org•John Riccitiello steps down as CEO of Unity after pricing battleEnglish1·2 years agoYeah, you’re still out in left field. If you’re telling me that your studio can’t handle sub-optimal returns while they swap out one (one!) piece of your development stack, then you have no business being in business.

Uniquitous@lemmy.oneto Technology@beehaw.org•John Riccitiello steps down as CEO of Unity after pricing battleEnglish11·2 years agoThey can finish up those projects and then move on to another engine. We shouldn’t encourage a hostage situation where we have to stay with an untrustworthy platform just because they have a metaphorical gun to some developers’ heads.
Uniquitous@lemmy.oneto Technology@beehaw.org•John Riccitiello steps down as CEO of Unity after pricing battleEnglish11·2 years agoSo long, ya greedy dumb bastard.
Looks like not. You’re cleared. This misogyny is free of the taint of antisemitism, carry on.
Is this the same troll who posted the anti-semitic crap this morning?
Aww, you left JD Vance off the certificate. He’ll be sobbing into his Chesterfield.
