It’s like the old saying, “If you think everyone around you is an asshole, just remember that you’re the common denominator in every situation”. So if your teammates are trash, it’s time to look inward at whether you’re actually the problem, or if you’re not, what you can do to help your teammates succeed.

If the person in question has ADHD, maybe cut them some slack. I have ADHD and I’m terrible at messaging people even though I enjoy talking to them and hanging out with them. I hope that my friends understand that.

In most European countries you need a 4 year university degree in criminology to become a cop. They have the same standards for average police officers as we in North America have for Federal law enforcement. So while it’s certainly true that some European countries have shitty cops, the ones with stricter barriers to entry have slightly less shitty cops.

My biggest concern with Epic is their insistence on kernel level anti-cheat which is just ridiculous overkill and probably being used as spyware let’s be honest. They have many ties to China’s Tencent which has a 40% stake in the company and is known to basically just be an extension of the Chinese government.

There’s also the very odd fact that just having the Epic Games Store open in the background will deplete your laptops battery life by up to 20%. Is it just horribly optimized and uses all that battery even when idling, or is it doing something nefarious in the background? We don’t know.

As for exclusives, they have bought exclusives that were mostly crowd funded from the start which is quite the kick in the teeth to the early investors that helped get the project off the ground. And there were even some exclusives that were already listed for pre-order through Steam, forcing everyone to need to get a refund.

Plus, any good will that they’ve purchased so far is just in service of making a good name for themselves. They’ve been losing around $400 million per year since 2019 just to bring in new users. They’re going to suddenly turn around and start being cut-throat as soon as they think they can.

They are not consumer friendly, they want to dictate trends in gaming. Valve is already the king of that throne and they’re fairly benevolent and have pushed trends that are good for gaming and consumers overall. I have serious doubt that Epic would be anywhere near as good for gaming as Valve has been if they should actually become profitable, and an industry leader. Especially when it’s projected that they won’t be profitable until 2027, which means they’ll need to recoup their investment of nearly $3.2 billion since 2019.

Okay, I chose the wrong word, but it’s semantics, I’m pretty sure you know what I mean by the word “productivity”. There are already plenty of countries where there are jobs going unfilled for months or even years. Teams stretched thin and expected to do the same amount of work as 2 or even 3 people would have done in the past, and it’s only going to get worse if immigration is limited because developed countries currently depend on immigration to fill the gaps.

You’re right that it’s totally unsustainable to depend on immigration to fill gaps in your labour pool. The hope many governments seem to be hinging on is that this crisis will rectify itself as the bloated elderly population of the pyramid starts to die off. There definitely needs to be systemic change, but that takes time. In the short term, there are plenty of immigrants that can fill those roles and keep your country’s economy strong in the short term. Countries that fail to recognize that are going to have a rough time.

Of course there are plenty of other reasons that immigration should be accepted. I just figure conservatives are really the only ones who oppose it and they tend to think in terms of the bottom line and their own selfish interests, so I thought I would frame it in a way that would appeal to them.

It’s pretty stupid and short sighted to hate foreigners. Every developed country has a declining birth rate right now and an inverted pyramid age graph where there are far more elderly people than young people. The only way countries can keep up their current level of productivity is by allowing immigration. Ban immigration and you basically guarantee your country is going to suffer economically.

Of course the racists think that this is a “white genocide” which is obviously bullshit. The entire Earth is on a trend of declining populations. It’s actually estimated that we very likely will hit a peak population of 11 billion and then it will start to drop dramatically and could drop down as far as 6 billion by 2100.

It makes sense to either go general to specific or specific to general. MM-DD-YYYY is neither.

The thing is that if someone is bothering you, then you need to go to the teacher. If you set a precedent that one kid is bothering you, then the teacher is more likely to believe you if you ever snap and hit your bully they’ll be more understanding. But if you never say anything and then suddenly snap, then obviously it looks from the outside like you’re the bully.

I currently work part-time as a bus driver and I just wanna say that it’s incredibly hard to determine who is right or wrong when you didn’t see what happened and you’re just going by what each kid says. If you only see the tail end of a fight, you might wrongfully think the kid retaliating is the bully. 99% of the time it’s easier to just separate the kids and/or punish them both equally since it’s impossible to determine who the victim and the perpetrator is. It sucks, it feels really bad, but that’s the reality of the situation.

There are plenty of distros which can be operated entirely through graphical user interfaces. Ubuntu, for example.

I get what you’re saying, but it’s not like we’re just taking that water and blasting it off into space. It’s going to be used and then make it’s way back into the ocean eventually. Either through evaporation and precipitation, or directly through rivers that feed into the ocean.

Of course, if there hasn’t been already, there should definitely be some extensive studies into whether there are any blockades as far as that water returning to the oceans in a reasonable amount of time.

Depends where you live, I guess. I don’t really consider -20 to be dangerous but I live in Canada so I know how to dress for cold weather.
