One AI fortunately used some logic to figure it out. “The only way to win is not to play.”

That was fictional. Current AI is not at a level to reason, plus because of its training source (the internet) it would probably launch everything because it’s the most probable thing to do given all the fiction where it always happens.

And what is that data? The internet. Maybe just dumping everything in to the mix wasn’t a great idea. But they had to do it before anyone noticed them stealing everyone’s data and to be first. It also doesn’t help that most (all?) AI is trained with reward systems that encourage making the human happy with the result…not being accurate. That’s why you can change its mind if it gives a wrong or a right answer, it’s just wanting to succeed in being a helpful AI assistant. Because in training when it didn’t act that way, it was at best not giving points that it values, and at worse…punished in some way?

A dial gauge can impart certain information that other ways cannot. I can notice a sudden change in movement without looking directly down, or see certain patterns of movement that simple numbers won’t. An old example of the loss of that was found in some classic luxury cars (my grandmother had a Cadillac that I noticed it in). The speedometer wasn’t a dial, it was an analog bar that would go right to left as your speed increased. It was very hard to judge change of speed by this, much like it’s hard to see from a few digital numbers that rapidly change. I’ve also noticed that even digital dial gauges can suffer from this if their refresh isn’t fast enough to simulate an analog accurately.

Doesn’t mean you can’t get used to a display or find other ways to get the same input, but dials aren’t just old nostalgia, they do have advantages. I would bet for some measurements an analog multimeter is preferred over a digital, and vise versa.

I’m surprised this distraction is so long-lived. People really are gullible. Perhaps it’s because most people are familiar with McDs but can’t relate to CEO level people, so they’re more willing to join in an attack on something they understand.

For anyone thinking I’m defending McDs somehow…you’re missing the point entirely. Which is interestingly my point…

  • Y’all…People my age who did vote for him deserve your rant, especially since they’ve known both Republicans and Trump for decades. But we all aren’t that gullible.

My X-Gen brain still reads “woke” as the opposite of “asleep”, even in its slang version. So some of us are woke, we’re just tired of not getting anywhere after all this time. So in the spirit of the comic and societal collapse, I’ll stick with my “whatever”.
