  • I suspect English teachers - specifically English Literature (if that’s a thing elsewhere, certainly was in England and Wales) - probably have read lived experiences and accounts of what has happened to marginalised people in the past. Being able to critically evaluate texts forces you to see different views of things - the ideal way to foster understanding of other positions even if you don’t agree with them.

Purely speculative post based on anecdotal evidence, but good on them.

  • Not sure if it was intentional, but fair play to Britney, that’s literally what she did.

I’ve not read any of her family’s accounts so there’s a huge knowledge gap on my part there, but to break out of that shitty legal arrangement and sing for herself is pretty badass.

Yeah, it works both ways at the end of the day.

I know fine well when I need to take some holiday days - I work with a team of fantastic guys and girls in a very bureaucratic environment, so any deviation from the norm in certain projects come with a raft of paperwork (an unnecessary volume in some cases), before the issue can really be put to bed.

Everyone makes fuckups. I’ve made fuckups and caused by line manager paperwork when I was at the coalface, and I’ll continue to make fuckups and learn from them in the future. I know my spuds will drop a bollock every now and then, and that’s cool.

There are times when someone has made a royal arse of something and it’s stacked another load of paperwork on top of me, and I get a bit angry about it. It’s not rational, it’s not fair to rag on the poor dude or dudette or dudethey who made an error, and I’ll let my partner know that I’m not after solutions - I’m just needing a bit of extra time to calm down and refocus. Solutions to those problems mean overhauling a heavy and entrenched system of work, and it’s not something that can be done at home - I could have married Kofi Annan, but unless he’s familiar with the system of work, there’s fuck all he could actually do.

At that point, it’s time to book a week or two off, and think about anything - everything - but work.

    e: clarity

It works spectacularly well with people you’re close to or on very good terms with.

If my other half is kicking off about something, a quick “hey listen, are you wanting help to fix this or are you wanting to vent like fuck to feel a bit better?”

It’s rarely the former, though I’d be more than happy to help if it was. At least then I can let her rage out and decompress without throwing in unwanted suggestions.

Probably comes across as a bit blunt to people you don’t know well though.

  • I’ve got it installed, but in fairness the nearly-fourteen year old laptop takes a fair while to start the application now.

I’m not a huge fan of Google as a company, but Google Docs is a fairly decent cloud-based app that’s largely agnostic to the low specs of my laptop.

  • If I see someone’s reply start with “So, you…” - I’m already rolling my eyes so fast that I’m time traveling back to nineteen-blackandwhite. In general, it’s an overly reductive view on the statement that misrepresents the initial comment in order to try and spark a pointless argument.

    It’s exhausting.

(in b4 “so you hate reading comments then?” 😂)

e: it’s not just Lemmy to be fair - the other popular aggregator, most tabloid news sites with comments, and a lot of gaming news sites with social interaction are largely the same.

  • Yeah, a bit of sense is all you need. I’ve not used spoofing tools but a few of my friends have - we live rural too and it revolutionises the game. Even our local small city centre isn’t really raid friendly - it’s not like you can hang a out Times Square and literally walk into a full raid whenever you like.

That said, the weekly Pokémon Club in rural areas is a great social, and mons tend to stay in gyms for more than twelve seconds making it a bit easier to get pokecoins. The game is still heavily skewed towards city centres though.
