The idea to enshrine it as an amendment to the constitution went much further back than the repeal of Roe.

Conservatives, who couldn’t yet undo Roe, argued in bad faith that there was no reason to enshrine it, since Roe already reinforced that it was enshrined, stating that the rights to abortion fell under your rights of equal protection from the 9th and 14th amendments.

And the Democrats, when they had power, kept it at Roe to ensure that they could rile up their base when needed, as well.

I don’t think anyone believed they could do it until Trump came along, instead using it as a focus for campaigning and raising money. Trump upended politics in the US, permitting people to say and do the quiet things out loud. Now those with their eyes and ears open can absolutely see the corruption taking over our country and the world. Granted, there always has been and the same statement could be said throughout all time, sure.

Take it from an American, if it doesn’t get enshrined there’s nothing protecting it from power hungry, politically minority party, christofascists. Look at Alabama right now… embryos are people.
