  • Had a VP that was the head of IT at one point that used to tell a story how he took the whole company down on his first day. He was a disciplined person as well. (Was in the British Royal Navy, then later the U.S. Navy). They were in the middle of moving a lot of their services over and had a 3rd party company contracted to install some kind of new switches if I remember correctly. They set it all up, left him with the information and contact info I guess for assisting whoever was going to managing them. Well he apparently tried to log into one and managed to factory reset it somehow on accident. No idea how he did that on accident. But the company managed things from the Virgin Islands to North Carolina all the way west to Texas. It was corporate headquarters, so… No paychecks for thousands of employees across 100+ sites and the whole 9 yards. Thankfully a quick fix once so everything was back up the next day, but that’s how you make a good first impression.

Still no idea why they had a 3rd party installing those switches though… Definitely something we managed in house by the time I got there

  • That’s the ticket. Worked in Tempe for 3 weeks. Come non work nights I was wondering what I should do, so if I was tired Id pop some edibles, laugh at a movie for a bit, wake up with munchies and get breakfast, then go back to bed until afternoon.

Didn’t want to spend much time outside when it was daylight anyways. Sun starts to go down, find a dive bar or something.

  • Ice cubes of chili? Either I eat way to much or you are very much more behaved with portion control and eating several times a day.
I’m pro one meal, eat until full… fast till I pick a time a time to eat the next day. Then again if I made chili I’d put garlic/onions in the pot bottom first, then meats to brown, then all other ingredients. Cook it all in one pot then when done eating, put the pot in the fridge on a heat mat. Eat the same thing until it’s gone.

Which would usually only take a 2-3 days.

Having someone else in the house and having to make other meals makes meals so much harder…

“We had that yesterday” - apparently what many other people say.

  • Calc 1 & 2 were fine for me. Calc 3 I either couldn’t get because I didn’t apply myself at all or my professor was terrible. 4 grades. 2 tests totaled 95% of our grade, 2 quizzes that equaled 5%. Got a 100 on the first quiz they said to use as a “progress report”. Got a 60 on the first test. Clearly the quiz wasnt a good way to tell my progress.

  • I know I’m getting older but this would bother me as well. It seems like a terrible way to shorten the word in my head. I think my brain just doesn’t like vowels and wants words to be shortened to end with consonants. Things like HOA make sense because they are all individual words.

  • Don’t forget the contractors, we flooded the market with contractor positions for a few different reasons. Some having to do with firing practices, same with insurance practices.

Then there’s the bids for jobs where contractors can take the job and some of those can be sketchy with subcontractors who may or may not be legally allowed to work or be getting paid rates that are legitimate.

Example: Beagal Cinema’s says they want an overnight cleaning crew that will clean all the theaters/floors/bathrooms and such nightly. Another company tells them they can do it for $500(made up number) a night. Then that contractor hires anyone, say 4 people and they bring their kids. Run through and clean it all up between 3am-9am every morning. Each one of them takes home $100 a day, and the contract-owner keeps $100. Beagal isn’t illegally hiring children in said case, and neither is the contractor, but the kids are having to work many nights a week with their parents to get the job done in time so they can be dropped off for school or maybe do homeschooling. (But those parents often don’t speak English, so I assume they would want their kids to go to a school to learn english at the very least).

Worked at a theater that did that from 2006-2012. So it isn’t a new thing.
