**As someone who has ran fiber and ethernet to companies post a category 5 hurricane to get network connections back online for paychecks across 7 states including the virgin Islands… I have never seen that. And we used satellite radio dishes to send signals across areas when we rewired the emergency center (police, fire, etc) under marshall law. It’s fucking humbling to have all bridges shut down in the area to try to cut down on people pillaging and have them give you a badge to cross under any conditions no matter the danger because you are considered “needed.”. Some other poor souls could have stood on the beach watching it come in piling shit up and running home to drag my chicken coop into the garage throw 2 dogs in the car and “evacuate” only to where the hurricane actually ended up hitting harder. I was an idiot, but the office building i was working from was on the front of the Los Angeles times or w.e the next day to show the destruction. We dug crabs and sucked water for days out of pipes to get Ethernet run in moves for months… But yet I have never seen someone run them though heating ducts haha. (True story)

Edit: circa Hurricane Michael, Panama City 2018

  • What I never quite understand/know is where internet based services land. If I run a cloud based storage company / web design company or such, the servers are on my personal property and therefore should be considered allowed. Where does that start becoming non “personal.”

It’s like charging someone to park their ideas/data on my personal property. Which I imagine would be considered private property instead. Where is the nuanced line?

    Anyone care to explain?

  • When I was single and moved awhile back I had a $500 gift card to walmart given to us by our company to help us out after a hurricane wrecked the area. I went on Sam’s website and ordered a bed, sheets and pillows. The box for the bed became my computer desk and the boxes for the pillows became my night stands. 5 gallon pickle bucket from a nearby restaurant became my computer chair. I used it like that for a year and a half… then someone came along and we upgraded some things. I looked at it as being poor and ♻️, but others don’t always see it thay way haha

  • Pretty sure they are a troll. Name being a play on “Karen”

I just checked and saw they went into a programming thread and said they speak English because it is the only language needed. Have to say as much as I don’t care for trolls, that is kinda funny

Somebody who isn’t a giant asshat loudly trying to manipulate the populace’s political opinions.

Otherwise they would know. Being famous isn’t always a good thing.

Now if you asked who were the lead engineers/designers for said vehicles it would mean more about the vehicle itself (but most everyone wouldn’t have looked them up or found their names)

  • I played Sniper Elite 5 on my fiances Xbox the other day and hadn’t played games in forever. (34 years old now) I knew I could remap the buttons if needed, but the melee button they made Y. I pressed down the right stick every damn time as a built in reaction from years back.

I don’t know why I felt I needed to say that, but I tell you when you find yourself looking through binoculars and getting lit up at point blank range it reminded me how frustrating games can get during quick scenarios.

“The majority of Mozilla’s revenue is generated from search functionality included in our Firefox product through all major search partners including Google, Bing, Yahoo, Yandex, Amazon, Ebay and others.”

Everything you just said was optimistic as fuck.

750 employees, 826 million dollars in revenue a year.

So what do they choose. Fire 700 employees and go down to 26 mill revenue?

Edit: when the hivemind disperses and sees Firefox follow Google in using tokens and blocking ad blockers, you may not see it as one of the dumbest thing you’ve read before.

2 years from now Firefox will have blocked adblockers, and there will be chromium based browsers (not Chrome) that won’t have them blocked.

I don’t see why people seem to be thinking a large company in a capitalistic landscape isn’t going to side with profits. Firefox will oppose it openly right now and take the new users and then move to the same without lube and without apologies.

Small browsers that still have some morals before going public will build browers off chromium because of its ease, and they will be able to exclude those blocks. Likely means we will be using different browsers every few years until something else changes.

Maybe I’m pessimistic here, but anyone who just moved from Reddit to Lemmy should know that Firefox isn’t the answer, it is another greed driven overlord.

Mimicking the tokens on the otherhand… those sites we will need to boycott if possible.
