There is a documentary called roadmap to apartheid that compares side by side what happened in south Africa and what continues to happen everyday to the Palestinians.

I highly recommend it, it is hard to watch though.
JoeKrogan@lemmy.worldto Europe@feddit.de•Europe has been named as the best continent for digital nomadsEnglish2·1 year agoYeah my Portuguese friends have said the same. Many cant afford to buy in their own areas anymore.
I dont agree with this. More centralized power just makes it harder for local and national changes and also makes it easier for lobbyists to undermine the interests of the general population for their own benefit
I’d like to see this on android too. That shit is the worst. I know we can root and remove it or disable it. It should not be there in the first place and it should definitely be removable.
JoeKrogan@lemmy.worldto Technology@beehaw.org•Online Commentator's take on the ongoing enshittification of the internet (Discord's next)English1·2 years agoSeems like a kids thing really. I agree it is stupid and going form one corporate owned entity to another is no better. I think FOSS community run solutions while rough around the edges will have the last laugh if they can sustain the current numbers and grow organically.
I’d also like to see more youtubers etc promote the fediverse and explain how it works as there seems to be a lot of confusion out there.
Ultimately its exciting and healthy for the Internet and society as a whole
JoeKrogan@lemmy.worldto Technology@beehaw.org•Reddit just auto removed my comment with a link to Lemmy.ml8·2 years agoSome people are rightly skeptical of shortened URLs due to malware etc. Also the point would be to show the name of the site. Probably users won’t click the link and scroll on but they will see the image.
JoeKrogan@lemmy.worldto Technology@beehaw.org•Reddit just auto removed my comment with a link to Lemmy.ml7·2 years agoThe thing to do now is post it in an image. They can’t autodetect the text in the image . its possible for surebiut they’re not spending money on that

JoeKrogan@lemmy.worldto Technology@beehaw.org•KBin has taken over Lemmy in monthly active users countEnglish6·2 years agoYou can just block a community or user and you won’t see it. Main thing is that its not corporate owned
JoeKrogan@lemmy.worldto Technology@beehaw.org•iPhone subreddit starting protest early, going dark indefinitely1·2 years agoYour right. I overlooked the network itself. Thanks for the added perspective 👍
JoeKrogan@lemmy.worldto Technology@beehaw.org•iPhone subreddit starting protest early, going dark indefinitely2·2 years agoThey could add the sites asbracve creators and get some revenue from that. Its depends on the number of users but anything helps
It will use activity pub… until it gets adoption and then it will close the doors like they did with XMPP. Also its Facebook so anything they touch should be avoided like the plague. They have proven time and time again they are not to be trusted, they were in the Snowden docs & they have had numerous lawsuits against them.

JoeKrogan@lemmy.worldto Technology@beehaw.org•Wish Lemmy used more screen real estate? Or that replies are indented more? Or that horrible green is blue? Read onEnglish17·2 years agoHonestly its better for reddit to die. The content is community created and it should be community owned. Sure the fediverse has some things people are not used to but the users are running the instances of the sites themselves. By us for us. The code is free and open source so if a new feature is requested it can be added etc. Also there is no big company demanding profits above all else. Its a labor of love.
It will take time but if many of the users who migrated stick with it it will grow organically from there
The trick is to do it during work
