Will Ferrell, technically. Plus most of the other SNL actors who started there and did films later (though many of those were based on SNL skits). Tina Fey, though, plays it straight. She started as a writer, joined the cast of SNL, and did TV and movies later. Granted, I wouldn’t call any of them “movie stars”.

I came across a ~2014 era memes folder on my NAS and found a few of them in there. Otherwise, I’d have never remembered they existed.

The pinned post in your Fedigrow community (also pinned in the older lemm.ee one) is literally pushing people to look for communities to consolidate and nag the mods about it. That’s where my annoyance with blue Sonic is coming from. Just going around trying to “fix” things that aren’t broken.

Not against mergers per se, no . I even said so in the post. Though I’m not necessarily happy about it.

TL;DR of my life is I’ve been screwed by M&A’s way too many times, and it’s never made things better. lol

Okay, but if that community didn’t merge in the first place - the likelihood would be that it wouldn’t even explode in activity for that to even happen as the audience would be split between multiples.

Bigger isn’t always better. I stand by that.

I like having options. Meme community gets too political? Just block it and use another.

On the flip side, if a niche topic community merges with another and turns to crap (for any number of reasons), then there’s nowhere else to go unless I start my own. And if it moves to an instance I’ve blocked? Well, I’m just gonna have to go without it because I blocked that instance for a reason.

It all ends up in the same feed whether it’s a 1 active user community or a million active user community. 🤷‍♂️

As an example, there’s multiple Star Trek meme communities. I just switch back and forth and post to both (unique content to each).

I mean, we all have bad days. I’m talking more of the ones that pretty much never have anything constructive to say, only point out minor faults or say it’s not good enough, and apparently saying nothing at all just doesn’t seem like an option.

If they are, and if their goal is to keep us angry, then:

• Bad news: They’re succeeding
• Good News: I’m angry at them rather than whatever they’re aiming for.

I also feel there’s an equal chance they’re just perpetually online buzzkills / Debbie Downers.

Wasn’t there a post here a while back about how half the people here are only here because they were too toxic to be anywhere else? If I’m not remembering wrong, I feel like that post could be relevant.

Anyway, I read the entry from the original post and it’s not entirely wrong, thought it definitely depends on the instance you use. Still, some of it is pretty damning for the concept as a whole. Hopefully some standard health/safety features become the norm.
