“Milk or Cereal first” mfs when they forget the bowl first
What I really find odd is the fact that Trump pledged to escalate the trade war between China and the US, yet the first thing he did was unban TikTok which is a Chinese-owned app that’s using pretty much the most profitable business model there is.
I’ll get a bit conspiratorial here, but if what Bernie has said is to be trusted in his video about oligarchy, up on his youtube channel, then Democrats are largely owned/influenced by billionaires who would benefit from the increased Trump support. It would make sense to do this, but yeah it could also just be a blunder, given how Trump was the first one to propose the ban and Democrats could take it as “hey if we do this, we’ll win the moderate right support again!!”, though who knows.
Paying a tribute to the feudal lord
Yes please - whenever some out of touch figure or a news page tries to offer condolences or condemn the alleged assassin, it backfires spectacularly no matter what the political leaning of the audience is. It’s literally the only thing that unites working class people in Burgerland
Adopting leftist music by perverting its meaning is pretty much the M.O. of far-right anthems/songs, no matter what the song was about originally. See: Tomorrow Belongs to Me, Fortunate son (to a milder extent), Born in the U.S.A as some of more well-known English examples.
I wonder if this was an attempt at doing precisely that, or was it just some publicity stunt for the movement.
I had the impression this was a privilege exclusive to the conservatives
Maybe it’s because the guy is a relevant public figure, and if he were to say something along the lines of “the bastard deserved it” he’d face a ton of consequences for it? This is so much easier to do in an online space where you are anonymous, especially in an admittedly echochambery place like lemmy.
I do recall the Trump’s first assassination attempt, and some celebrities (can’t recall the names right now) did come out and say something along the lines of “shame the guy missed” which made the media start hounding and targeting them, with their colleagues being forced to disavow or kick them from their projects entirely.
It would be cool if Tim Walz or any influential figure went “rip bozo” regardless though
Conflicted if this is actually good.
On one hand, Twitter has become a real neo-nazi platform that openly spreads misinformation/propaganda/rage-bait in the guise of ‘free speech’ with the owner also abusing their powers by stealing handles and censoring and whatnot. The world would be better off without it if it were to die.
On the other, Twitter is still quite a big name with a lot of influence, with alternatives being much more niche. If every decent person was to leave the platform and all that’s left are neo-nazis and “good-faith-neither-left-nor-right-people-who-always-strangely-support-the-right”, it’s just going to make recruitment much easier.
What years of anti-feminist propaganda does to a man
Wonder how it’s actually going to be enforced. Judging from the article, it’ll all be up to the tech companies themselves which historically didn’t turn out to be that effective (examples: age fields on services like Discord and Gmail and porn).
The only effective way I can think of is having to send a picture of your ID but that’s hella invasive
Trump got 4 years of presidency in the US, which is definitely the more extreme punishment. It’s something I would never wish upon my worst enemy
It can also be reversed - there were some popular far-left YouTubers who were advocating for not voting or voting third party as a protest against Gaza genocide, yet things that mattered domestically like LGBT, women’s rights weren’t even considered or mentioned there. The cost of doing business, baby.
Love Covered “Master Spark”
Even though it’s too early to say, I wonder what the future would have held for US Democrats if Kamala were to win the election. Would they have learned that going right is the correct call?
What about a future where someone worse than Trump came up, someone who’s a religious fundamentalist with even higher support numbers due to constant billionaire-funded propaganda and radicalization in general, what would Democrats do then?
But maybe I’m too much of a pessimist.
Imma be real as an European, we kinda have the same problem here even with better voting systems. You either vote for “nothing ever happens” parties or literal Russia funded reactionary nazis.
