Chose seemingly every hill that isn’t worker’s rights and people’s material wellbeing to die on, again.

Feminists missed out and are continuing to miss out on an opportunity to bridge the gap. Men aren’t choosing Tate and Peterson because they’re the best version of masculinity, they’re choosing them because they’re some of the only people telling men you don’t have to hate yourself, and they’re acknowledging that things really are challenging for men.
It’s how Trump won too. While everyone was talking about how great things are, he was telling a different story: things were great, but they’re a bit shit right now. While he named the wrong enemy (it’s always oligarchs), most people wouldn’t know that and were just happy to have someone call the issue out at all.
Feminists and Democrats have a choice now: take class and men’s issues seriously, or keep losing ground. Given the latest events at the DNC, it doesn’t sound like Democrats learned anything. Maybe the major feminist orgs are doing the necessary self-examination? I’m not hopeful to be frank, but I’m open to it.
- reads Vogue
- cares this much about what other men are doing
- thinks having children with Rihanna is emasculating
For a guy whose whole identity is based around their opinion of what straight masculinity is, this is an interesting hill to die on.
CancerMancer@sh.itjust.worksto memes@lemmy.world•What's with the overkill hardware setups?1·5 months agoHeavy-duty applications? Lots of devices in the home? Reliance on PoE? There are plenty of reasons to use big equipment, it’s not just for show.
I couldn’t run multiple game servers off of a laptop the way I do on my spare Ryzen 9 5900X. I also have it transcoding media and it has 30tb of storage, of which I’m currently using over 2/3s for media/steam cache.
I also have a 24 port switch because I have a whole family here each with their own PCs, consoles, etc… I host the odd LAN as well and it wasn’t really any cheaper to go smaller for when I don’t need all 24, so I just popped it off. I also need two APs on different channels just to accommodate all the wireless devices + IoT shit.

Those plates don’t stop rifle rounds. The school shootings we hear about (actual mass shootings) nearly always involve a rifle. Given that fact, those plates are just useless weights.
Well you want to know the other person gets it, right? Otherwise it’s just hollow words. A well-chosen anecdote means that to some extent, you understand each other. I can see the appeal of that kind of commiseration.
how could a Marxist ever get confused by China’s imperialist and state capitalist tendencies? You must be a lib.
lol
When “I don’t think this job deserves a living wage” meets “no one wants to work!!11!1!1!”
There are still business owners in my city whining about a lack of workers. The jobs they’re offering? Part-time with constantly changing but always horrible hours, no compensation besides the minimum wage. Yeah I guess everyone is just lazy?
Almost every time I’ve been given the choice, the cashiers were faster. People using the self-checkouts are slow as fuck.
It’s not obvious at all bro. I see unironic shit like that posted on here all the time. I live and breathe IT so I am all too aware some IT folks are fucking assholes about this.
That said I really do think the bar needs to be raised a bit. People struggling to setup meetings in Outlook in 2024 is not ok.
Do you pay people to change your car’s oil? Do you call in an HVAC tech when your air conditioner’s capacitor dies? Do you bring your computer into a shop to have the storage upgraded?
These are all fairly easy things to do. I make good money replacing and upgrading storage in laptops, desktops, and other devices like Steam Decks, a few hundred a month from that alone. It’s nearly trivial in difficulty, like replacing the fill valve or the chain that connects it to the handle, but people pay and I’m not about to tell them not to.
Doing God’s work right here.

Same. I always wondered how ideas like giving what you can, loving thy neighbour, and forgiveness to the extreme somehow results in Supply Side Jesus, “Protestant work ethic”, jail time for addictions, “law and order” politics, etc…
These people have strayed so far from the teachings and I’m not sure how they can claim to follow them and then blame homeless people for being homeless.
My issue with the ‘master’ debate is that the overwhelming number of people I saw fighting against its usage had only “added inclusive language to readme/CoC” as their GitHub history. At that point you’re not a programmer, you’re an idealogue injecting your preconceptions into a world that you don’t understand. Frankly we need less intervention and presumption from this single viewpoint, the western white imperialist, and more people asking questions as their default mode of interacting with things they don’t understand.
