Lots of good answers here. Another minor one is Hollywood bias - older male actors got starring roles in romantic films. Random example, Cary Grant was 59 when he played the lead role in Charade opposite Audrey Hepburn who was 34.

Add to that the low quality of TV broadcasts, different styles of filing and lighting in movies, and less subtle use of makeup and people in film and TV from stuff from the 90s back have an other-world quality to them if you look back at that compared to the high definition world were in now. Even older magazines and pictures can be available at lower quality to us on the Internet than at the time, as we don’t get to see the true originals but lower quality scans on the Internet compared to modern digital photographic.

It’s amazing looking at old film from the 1800s that has been well kept or restored - not just people but the whole world actually looks real unlike what we’re used to.

We’re so used to looking at history in low definition or the artificiality of old fashioned TV/movie techniques and biases.

I was a remainer but unfortunately I don’t think rejoining would win a vote any time soon.

We had a good deal when we were in the EU and won’t get the same terms - and joining under the standard terms (Eurozone membership, common agricultural policy etc) would not be attractive. It’ll be harder fight to electorally to rejoin than it was to stay in, at least at the moment.

I think it’s more likely we will fudge rejoin by rejoining the single market, taking the rules without a say but it’s hardly any party’s priority. The tories have imploded and Labour dare not mention the EU as all they care about is winning the election this year. The EU just isn’t talked about as an electoral issue anymore.

Also I should say from within the UK, leaving the EU hasn’t felt particularly negative. Our economic problems started before we left the EU with the financial crisis in 2011, so we were used to "austerity"and anemic growth. Also while the country hasn’t grown it also hasn’t contracted, it’s stagnated. That’s not good but it’s not as impactful on ordinary people. And Covid had also been a distraction - a lot of economic harm has been blamed on Covid even though the EU and USA in particular have more than bounced back while the UK has only really gone back to baseline.

So for most UK citizens we haven’t seen the doom and gloom that was warned about specifically from leaving the EU, hence the lack of a push to rejoin.

I think it may be some years yet before rejoining the EU is on the cards. And in fairness there is a lot that could be done to improve growth even without rejoining the EU - so I suspect it’ll be ignored as an issue for at least the next parliament (5 years).

Generic drug names are widely used in the UK and europe - we don’t have US style advertising. There are brands but they don’t cut through in the same way when generics are so widely known and mandated for prescriptions coming from the NHS too.

Benadryl isn’t even a specific drug, it’s just a brand with different drugs in different countries (cetirizine in the UK). I’d just say “antihistamine”.

Also brand name drugs are largely a scam - pharmaceuticals are heavily regulated and generics are the exact same drug. Save yourself some money, learn the generic names and buy those. Otherwise you’re just paying the drugs company for their advertising and the big price mark up for their profit as a “premium” brand.

I can’t remember the last time I used a cheque. Maybe 10 or even 15 years ago? Even that was a random one off. I don’t even have a cheque book and would have to ask the bank especially if I wanted one.
