  • The only other thing I can think of is that you’re dual-booting and Windows isn’t playing nice with GRUB as usual.

If that’s the case, well then this is why I gave Linux and Windows their own dedicated drives, with a switch installed on my case to physically select the drive. That way they can both have their own bootloaders so Windows can’t get in the way. They’re not even aware that the other OS exists.

  • Dunno what to tell you, man. Update and shut down always works perfectly for me. It updates, restarts to finish the update, then shuts down. Works every time.

The only thing I can think of is that you’re being impatient and manually shutting he machine down after the restart, instead just letting the OS do its thing.

  • I’m sorry you had issues. Win11 runs everything flawlessly for me. Not only that, every complaint I had about the OS was fixed by installing these two apps: StartAllBack and O&O Shut Up 10.

I’ll completely switch to Linux once it not only gets proper HDR support, but also better support for DAW and DJ hardware. Until then I’m stuck dual booting Arch, like I have been with the Latest Windows version—and whatever contemporary Linux distro is in vogue—since the 90s. Some things never change.

A “couple presses of the arrow keys” can overshoot, forcing you to hunt around with the mouse to find the content.

SponsorBlock has an option to skip the segment with a single button press (instead of auto-skipping). You should give it a try before you judge. It’s really convenient.

  • Seems to me that you got an early or cheaper HDR display, then. To me the difference is night and day.

FWIW, HDR does its best work if you have a display that can do true blacks. If you don’t have an OLED, mini LED, or full array, you’re going to have a hard time noticing the difference, especially if you don’t know what you’re looking for. HDR works best in either extremely dark or bright scenes, so having a display with a near infinite contrast ratio is important.

Here’s a hint for any display: Look at some HDR clouds while you toggle HDR on and off. You’ll definitely notice the difference there. Also check the teals. It’s less obvious but SDR displays can’t do a proper teal.

  • Given that cookies are just one of many ways you can be tracked on the web, isn’t the who cookie banner thing kind of pointless to begin with? You can be identified by the fonts on your system, browser size, add-ons, and canvas fingerprint, WebGL fingerprint, screen resolution, time zone offset, hardware specs, what peripherals are plugged-in… It goes on and on.

We don’t need tracking cookie banners, we need tracking everything banners.
